Thanks Steve, now that I have found the buddy list, is there anyway to be able to make it smaller and running in another window while reading the forums?

I have it now set to open the buddy list in a new window. After you open it just resize it to the size you want.

Steve,

Any chance of getting a "suscribe to thread" button at the bottom of the page and a "mark all forums read" button at the top?

Richard

I was wondering if there was any way to make the "boxes" or windows smaller? Right now, when I am scrolling I only get 2 boxes or windows to fit on one entire screen.

Thanks,

Trent

I'd rather not duplicate stuff unless absolutely necessary because it adds extra stuff to load. Subscribe to a thread is under the thread tools menu. If you are at the bottom you can pop back to the top by clicking on the top link at the lower right of the entire page to get to it.

Mark forums read is at the bottom of the forums screen right now. I will add it to the discussion forums menu up at the top - done.

No, there isn't.

How about a physical url to the "Get New Posts since last visit"? This way I can place the link in my address bar, and just have that come up when I come to the site. :)

Steve....

At home, I have a Mac Imac, OX 10. 3, and am on dial-up modem.

Everything is slower than before.

How come I have to log in everytime? I logged in once at work yesterday, and did not have to this morning, but at home I've had to everytime.

The font (hope this is the correct description) on my home computer is much smaller than before. At work it's "normal".

I'm in the slow lane of the information superhighway, so go easy. :)

Guys PLEASE read the announcement at the top of this thread!! I have a big flashing notice at the top of the forums asking everyone to read it. A lot of the questions being asked over and over are in there.

EVERYTHING is going to be slower for at least the next week. The search engine is being rebuilt which puts an extreme load on the server. When you make a post or do an edit the thing that takes the longest is putting the words into the search engine. Rebuilding the search engine is like posting every post that has ever been made in the history of the site - all 890,000 of them. I started it yesterday at 9:30am and since that time the server load has been over 1. 5 the entire time - the server load hasn't been over 1. 5 in months. When the server load hits 2. 0 (which it has many times since yesterday) it means the server is getting requests faster than it can dish them out. When that happens all requests are put into a queue that it gets to when it can. You will have to have some patience over the next week to week and a half while the search engine is built up. I did turn it off last night for a couple hours during the peak traffic period to see what loads and response times would be like and they were very close to normal.

There is also a post cache that will take the next week or so to build up which will also speed things up. Things will be slightly slower with the new software over the old once everything is up and running because of the larger amount of content on each page over the old software (about 30%). But from what I've seen on other sites it shouldn't be very noticeable (moreso for dial up users than high speed though).

On your login your machine is not accepting cookies from us for some reason. I'm not familiar with Mac browsers but there should be somewhere in there that you can set the TDR site up as a "trusted site" to accept cookies from. Once you do that you shouldn't have to log in again. The old site was working because the cookie was already there before they made that change in the software probably.

i don't like it at all. lets go back to the old way. why change something that works just fine??

Because it wasn't "working fine". If you read the first post on this thread as I have asked in the big flashing message at the top of every forum page you'd know why the change was made. The version of the software we were on had a security hole that I became aware of in early July. There are hackers that have been searching for sites running that version of vB and when they find one they hack into it and create havoc (erasing data, users, changing data, etc). Since early July until now we've been at risk for losing all of the forum data. I back it up every day but we could have lost everything posted that day and I would have had to restore the data - which at that time the hackers would have come back and done it again. Switching to the new version was not an option (which is what I said in the first post in this thread).

sorry. actually i did start to read all the infor. at the top of the page but fell asleep half way thru. maybe thats cause i work nights?
