Got my new Autometer Pro Comp Ultra-Lites installed this weekend. Installed a 35 psi boost and 0-1600* pyro on 2 gauge pillar. These are sweet gauges! They blend with the pillar and look cool.

Now for my questions.

When I nail the throttle in 5th and 6th gear, my boost gauge goes *WELL* beyond 35 psi. I tested it with an air compressor and regulator and it took 43 psi to make the gauge go that far . Am I missing something here? I didn't think a K&N, BD 2's, and an EZ could push that! I'm impressed :).

Secondly, I installed my pyro post turbo mainly because I've seen what happens when a probe breaks pre-turbo (not a pretty sight). Under an extremely hard pull, I can only touch 825*. Again, very impressed.

Any comments, suggestions?

With the EZ only I saw 28 psi's max. With the EZ and 3's I could hit 40 psi's, took some work though. With the BD 5's and the EZ I can hit 40 psi's in any gear above 3rd quite easily and 45 psi's with very little effort. Turning the TST on just gets me there quicker (boost wise).

Not sure what to tell you inregards to the egt's. My set up is pre-turbo. All I can say is that my egt's are in check no matter what I do running empty.

Glad your install went well, enjoy the ride. Ain't a BOMBed ETH more fun than what should be legal :D

I have found that the Autometer boost gauges are far off their calibration. I am in the process of switching to the new Isspro line of gauges with a 60 psi boost gauge that reads properly. Autometer gets a big thumbs down from me. Scott, you just have too much power! More is just a 20 mile drive away!!!! Wanna boost your power?

Chris, I'm really getting the itch to try that NOS. Thought that I would hold out until next spring, will be lucky to make it to Oct. , so much for will power.

I checked the gauge against my regulator and pressure gauge, and all of them are dead even. Guess an ETH is just a bad a$$ engine, he he. Bomb on!

Giz. . Jennetty's Racing sells the Autometer 50psi gauge... I think they are about the only ones that sell the 50psi Autometer gauge... Looks like you're going to need one... I got to try that EZ... ...

I had been planning on it. . but we have an Antique Tractor pull in New Braunsful on Sat... Don't know the exact plans yet. . Was thinking of maybe heading to the TDR meeting in the AM. . and back for the pull in the afternoon... but looks to be about 70 miles between the two... could be lots of driving... Just have to see how many miles I'm up for on Sat... I sure would like to see some other trucks... and try some toys... .

Hi Gizmo 007,,

I read your post regarding the EGT's your seeing.

My pyro is mounted post-turbo as well.

It's my understanding that if your sensor is mounted after the turbo, just into the elbow radius you need to factor in some error due to its distance from the exhaust manifold.

The rough formula I was told is... add 10*F for every 1 lb. of boost... . so if your actually seeing 43 lbs. of boost you would need to add roughly 430*F to your pyro reading.

That would take you to about 1255*F. For that kind of boost, those temps are about what you should expect actually.

Pretty Toasty !!!

You may want to inquire further on this but I think thats right up there for safe max. operating temps!!! (does Cherynobl mean anything to you??) ;)

On the other hand if your seeing 43 lbs boost your really cookin some serious HP there and I hope your not running an auto trans with that kind o'juice and no mods to the TC and VB.

But, what do I know, I'm just an ole' 1st Gen'er

FWIW

BushWakr,

I can only hit 43 psi when I nail the loud pedal in high gear at lower speeds. When I do a flat out pull, I run around 29 psi and peak around 825*, normally about 775*- 800*. Note that I'm pulling a 40 foot gooseneck float fully loaded.

The temps are pretty good for that kind of load. With the 6 speed, it works really well. If you can keep a clutch together , which I've managed so far.

Hey Giz'

Not too shabby there guy! The stick transmission is a definite plus. If your seeing about 750*F average then adding the extra 300*F ( for 29-30psi boost) takes you to the 1000* mark. That's not bad considering what your pulling. 'Course its those accidental foot spasms that ya gotta watch out for right! :)

Good luck with holding onto the clutch. ;)

I can understand such a low reading boost guage on a GM or Ford but not on a Cummins!!!!!!

Better get a 50 psi. so you can see what is going on and drill that hole in the exhaust manifold like ya are supposed to sailor!! put that pyro where it will do ya some good.

When I got my Autometer boost gauge, I hooked it up to our highly accurate pressure meter at work ( calibrated to within +/- . 2 cm H2O which is fractions of PSI) and the maximum error on my gauge was less than 0. 2psi anywhere on the scale. That is very good for a mechanical gauge if you ask me, especially at the price they go for. But that's not to say they are all that way, I may have gotten a really good one.
