Im a NEW GUY!!!!!! ok fellas chk out my problem here, im kinda sad and a little heart broke with my cummings, although the truck is a BEAUTY INSIDE N OUT I HAVE TO ADMIT. i hav been searching for years for my dream truck n i finally got it, my 2016 ram 2500 6.7l diesel crewcab 4x4 LIMITED 30k n 100% Stock. ok here in my area that i drive the truck it ranges 4000-4500' abov sea level traveling 75 cruise control im getting 16.7/17.4 and in the city if im lite on the pedal i can upwards from 15.3/16.1, now heavy foot enough said with that. Are these numbers correct fellas I bought my truck becuz millions of guys were saying "well i get 18 in town n 24 hiwy sum even 26 mpgs, well if ur that guy UR FULL OF ****", member my truck 100%stock Factory everything. my trade in for this truck was a 2013 chevy 1500 6.2l v8 gasser crewcab 4x4, that i would give HELL IN CITY N HIWY, n i would see 14 n 17.5-18 hiway all same roads all same altitudes dry texas desert climate. how is this possible man REALLY, im kinda regreting the trade in fellas whats ur alls opinion on this plz tell thanks guys sorry so long, n i have seen sum killer trucks on the forum.

The 2wd guys will get a litter better but anyone that claims of the mid/ upper 20's is full of whale doo doo. Check their noses to look for an increase in length.

i here u man n i kinda figured but damn these trucks awesome, even towing its so stress free its a breeze with these trucks, my 1500 was kinda stressful had to always calculate my stopping n wasnt allowed to swerve n pulling up hill was a fight even with the 6.2 but anyways ibjyst feel like i hav to baby it sometimes its wierd its probably me loll

A non deleted 6.7 is not going to get 20s real mileage, not lie-o-meter mileage. Speed kills mileage if you want high mileage stay around around 55.

My 01 2500 would consistently get 18-20mpg highway city didn't matter and on certain roads/trip that I traveled frequently I could get 21 running 70mph, Even if i had a lot of weight in the bed I could still get that kind of mileage. Best ever was 23.5 and only happened twice on the same stretch of roads two different times over a 300 mile trip however speed was mostly in the 50's. Towing our popup camper would get me 15ish when we got our fifth wheel it would drop it down to 12ish. I hand calc'ed darn near every tank over 350k miles. My 2017 is a 3500 srw and weighs about 900lbs more than the 01 did. Mileage towing is the samee but daily driving I lost 1-3mpg. I have also noticed that the 17 is much more fickle when it comes to driving style. City is definitely less than before as is highway but highway only about 1-1.5 less. In addition to that if I dont drive fairly easy I notice a larger drop.

cool man thanks for ur reply, since this is my 1st diesel from a gasser im trying to treat them the same man thats my mistake but im gettinv better n trying harder not but i feel like i havtk baby the dang thing u know, n with my gasser man that truck was always pedal to the metal and my worst tank from a 26 gal tank was 315-330ish miles, n with the cummings if i drive like that its like damnnnn 250 miles n 31 gal tank thats crazy, i know its a biggern heavier truck but the power to weught ratio is soooo different u know,, thank man

Please don't take offense to this but I hope you didn't really expect to get better fuel mileage out of a 3/4 ton pickup than your recent half ton. Aside from a much lighter curb weight modern gas engines have become very efficient with the improvements in AFM. I'm not surprised at all with your real world experiences.

At 250 miles to a tank, let's say even 27 gallons (assuming you don't run your tank to the ragged edge), that's 9.2 mpg. You must really be flogging that sucker! The few solo non towing highway trips I've made have easily surpassed 500 miles on a tank. Mostly highway.

no sir feel free to voice ur opinion, i just dont liked to told bull crap u know, its like why do we try so hard to impress something to people bout something n ur not getting or acheiving those goals, u kniw but anyways member its my very 1st turbo, but ur right n i kinda did hope to get better mpgs becuz theres alot more power in the cummings, so the truck should be easier to move drive n increase speed faster than a gasser n mayb get sum savers there, but well see how it goes, thanks

"cummings"

^^^^^^^^ this is your problem! Start calling it what it is and it may return better mileage "CUMMINS".

Get your old truck on the scales and your new truck. May be a tad bit of difference in weight.

At 75mph you will see MUCH lower mpg than at 60-65.

Fill in your public signature. Year model SB/LB etc.

My 2016 2500 4wd auto cc gets 17.5 to 18.5 in town driving easy and getting lucky with few red lights. Solo on the highway driving on flat roads 20 to 21. Towing heavy it can go down to 9. This is all hand calculated. The EVIC is always 1 to 2 mpg higher.

I'm pretty sure your fellas have spoken about the 1500 EcoDiesel, that one fits nicely into tha range you were talking about.

In stock form I would get between 17-18 on average. I up sized the tires to 295-70-18's and re calibrated the speedometer. Running empty with a bed cover If I behave I can coax 22-24 mpg on open highway. Hand calculated. Hit traffic and it drops down fast anywhere from 18-20 mpg. Stop and go kills mpg fast. That said around town and my commute to work is 1.5 miles and my mpg will drop to 15 in the summer and 12 in the winter. The type of tire will have a huge effect on mpg. The best I've found is with Cooper Discover At3 so far but they are hard and noisy. But roll really easy. You have to remember these trucks are 8000 lbs empty. You can't have everything.

I've owned these and hand calculated averages:
1993 W250 club cab 4x4 3.54s, 5spd= 17mpg;
2000 2500 QC 4x4 6spd 3.54s = 17 mpg
2002 3500 QC 4x4 6spd 4.10s = 14 mpg
2003 2500 QC 4x4 4spd Auto = 17 mpg
2009 4500 C&C QC 4x4 6spd Auto 4.44s = 9.6 mpg
2017 5500 C&C Crew Cab 6spd Auto 4.88s = 9.6 mpg

As you can see, I never get high numbers on fuel mileage. I drive them moderately, but tow a lot. Every now and then, I might get a little punchy just to run with the big dogs. I know a lot of friends with big mileage and fishing stories though. :p:rolleyes:o_O

Cheers, Ron

1st, your altitude doesn’t help. Hills usually come along with altitude. Those big mpg numbers you hear never occur on anything but flat land or downhill running. Drop 10 mph and you’ll gain 1.5- 2 mpg. Aero drag increases exponentially with speed.

Goodness that was hard to read...

I can get 21 or 22 on the highway with light traffic at 70-75 mph. If you encounter traffic, that number drops. If you hop onto surface streets, that number drops. Elevation increase, number drops. In town I get closer to 17-18 mph. City driving it gets a little lower. If you are only seeing 17 or 18 on the highway (without traffic) then something seems off.

loll hell yeah now im drinking dam good ice cold beer (COORS LIGHT BUDDY) but i here u all n i appreciate all the info n input u hav given me,

GET UR FAT FOOT OFF THE PEDAL!!!!!!!!!
thanks guys ☹️☹️

Axle ratio comes into play as well. My 4:10 '03 struggles to hit 16 mpg with my driving style. If I make a long a long highway run keeping it at 2000 RPM or less, I can maybe get to 16.5. Typical weekly ride to work (10 miles each way; 1/2 town roads, 1/2 highway) nets me about 14.5-15 MPG.
