Hey guys, need some input, I have had some problems with my headlight in the past, basically no low beam head lights at times, only happens when some one else drives my truck. Well this morning heading home from work I only had passenger headlight working, the drivers side was working but verry dimm. I undid the harnass, couldn't find anything wrong, and I don't have batteries for my volt meter. I am thinking it is a ground problem. Does anyone know where the headlights are grounded out... TIA... . Jerry

The headlights on your model year 2000 Ram are switched ground. There is a single electrical path from the multifunction (dimmer) switch, through the headlight switch, to ground. Any problem involving the circuit from the multifunction switch to ground will effect all headlight bulb filaments.

Where did you undo the harness?

Assuming that both 9004 bulbs are okay, I think you'll find that the problem is in the area of the multifunction switch. The switch itself can fail or the wires/connectors at the switch can open the circuit due to the tilt feature of the steering wheel.

Thanks for the reply, let me elaborate a little more. When this happend I had my plow on and it was with the drivers side plow light, thinking it was just the light at first i switched the plows light harniss around and got the passenger head light to go dim and the drivers side full power. So I was thinking it was the plows wiring harnis. I then unplugged all the plows wiring from the head lights and plugged them in directly to the headlight bulbs from the factory wiring harness and it is still doing the same thing. Now as far as the light switch, I do have my guages and my clearance lights tied into the wiring behind the switch. Do you think my light switch is bad? Jerry

Jerry, I'd start by checking where the plug for the plow lights plugs into the truck. there should be a male & female recepticle. Check each end for possible foreign debris. This could act as a conductor & mess up the lights.

Judging by your description of your problem, the issue is in the wiring harness for the plow lights. I would also follow the plow light wiring in the truck & find where it grounds at, if at all. It sounds like you have no problems when there is no plow hooked up, so that narrows it down to the plow light set-up. Just my $. 02 worth... John
