Jacob082:
Welcome to the TDR! I lived in Texas
(near Houston) and later up in Marble
Falls. Man you guys have had some hot
weather this summer. I definitely do
not miss that!
About your question on the exhaust.
The exhausts you hear "that sound
like a semi" are most likely running
a "straight through system" bigger
pipe 31/2-4" with no muffler or cat-
alytic converter. Alot of the members
(including me) are running aftermarket
mufflers such as the Banks, Walker,
Flowmaster etc.
I have removed my catalytic converter
and have a 3 1/2" "Banks" system. Your
new truck won't have the converter so
you don't have to worry about that. I
don't think the "Banks" muffler makes
mine "sound like a semi" but it is
definitely louder, and more "throaty. "
Extensive testing on exhaust systems
on these trucks by TST (Mark Chapple
and Joe Donnelly) have shown that the
4" exhaust does not help that much
unless your horespower is way up
there (300+) and/or you are running
an HX40 turbo. (Your truck should have
an HX35. ) A friend of mine and fellow
TDR member (Pete Peterson) has a 99'
Ram Diesel and he removed the stock
muffler and then installed a "Flowmaster" which I think sounds better than my
"Banks" but that is just my opinion.
He will probably see this post and
advise you as will the other members.
As far as the "Banks Twin Ram" manifold,
I can't advise you on that because I
don't have one. However, look back in
12 Valve and 24 Valve Engine and Drive-
train" archives and you will find an
entry on them.
Good luck and take care!
