What make is the HTB2..... (Holeset, Garrett, etc. )

I must confess, I am not even in the market for a new single but this turbo sounds like a lot of bang for the buck.

who makes it...

Paul told me it was a Borg Warner casing? ... and if anyone has any comments about how this turbo will work with my setup... let 'em fly!!!

Only thing beyond my sig. that I would like to do is add a Blue Chip Diesel APB box... for just a little extra every now and then!

I know this is the wrong year forum to ask in but it's on topic.

I can buy a used 4" down pipe for a hx35, (should be cheap) What parts do I need to get? How much pipe will it take to make it work, I can buy 4" 45's and 90's from NAPA will I need any pipe? again this is for a 02 truck.

"DON'T HOLD ME TO THIS" I could have just misunderstood when I was asking questions. But after a few minutes and a few dozon name flying around it all starts sounding the same to me  But I thought one side of the turbo was a Schwitzer. Also I was told it would flow more air then the Holset H2E. Funny thing is I was told the same thing when I was thinking about buying a B1 bomber. HUM  I wonder if the Killer B2 will have the strenth the b1 has shown over the last 2 years. Does any one know if the B1 bomber uses a Borg Warner parts. It might explain the "B" in the name. aka HTB2 and the B1 bomber

If you are looking for just a little extra power try a JVD box. It has 1 switch LOW/off/HIGH They also come it different powers levels, (a/b, b/c, c/d d/e) The levels went by fueling % of the pump. I have had mine for so long I don't remember how the % works anymore. I do know I have a the D/E code. I was told that if you go any hotter then the E code with the blue tracer wire cut your pump could go in to a save the pump mode and the truck would drop to an idle till you shut the truck off and restart it. I can tell you that on my truck the drag comp will pull harder from down low in the lower rmp but falls off on top end when compaired to the JVD box. The jvd box dosn't mess with the timing at all either. EGT are higher with the jvd when pulling with the same amount of power but it feels better when pulling a trailer. Their are a bunch of differences between the 2 of them I use my comp for timing and the jvd for fuel. "unhooked the pump wire from the comp". This seems to be be best for me and it is just about the strongest thing I have found buy using the seat of the pants. What I did is went out and got the Blue chip FMS box, a JVD box and edge drag comp, and a box from bully dog all at the same time. I played ever night after work till I found the one I wanted to keep, (poor truck had it rough that month) then sent the other ones back before the 30 money back was over. The big thing that sold me on the JVD box over the Blue chip FMS box was how long it took to make changes on the blue chip box. I didn't do any dynoing but by the seat of the pants the Blue chip FMS box with the Bully dog timing box was UNREAL ON power. When pushed to 63% fueling it wasn't very street able :D but man was it fast... ... Isn't power great. also the jvd box is also a lot cheaper then the others and very street able on the low power level, works out great for pulling a load, if you was to add one to your set up and leave the timing box hooked up your truck should FLY with just a flip of a single switch

those are just my thoughts

Well guys my NEW HTB2 was drop off today by UPS so it's sitting at home, And I am stuck at work till sunday morring. It should be on by monday night if all goes well with the down pipe.

I will post some pictures after I get it on.

I have a used 4" down pipe from a freind that is for a HX35, I stoped at NAPA and got 2' of 4" pipe and one 90 degree elbow. Monday I am headed over to a shop to see if they can fab up my down pipe. If not then I quess I will try and find a hx40 down pipe and cut the end off of it.

Sounds like they're going to hold one for me when they get back in stock. We'll see how they perform on a third gen :)

Well it goes like this, Turning a 4" hx 35 down pipe into one that will work... didn't work for me.

Word to the wise call Piers and order a down pipe for the B1 turbo. Mine has yet to show up but should be a bolt in place pipe :) come on UPS.

If all goes well it should be on by 8-22-04 (sunday)

I just undated my sig check it out, I wish that HTB2 would have went on the truck that easy

Anyone know if the banks down pipe will work? Looks like it might. Their downpipe eliminated the stock elbow right? I might give it a try.

My new HTB2 is in transit from Idaho as we speak and a hx40 down pipe will be a donor that I'll need to fab up. Hope all goes well.

Loud Mouth from the South is right.

I've been running one of these turbo's for about 5 days now. Mine is the 14cm exhasut housing non waste gated model. I really like it with my mods. It has lowered the EGT's about 200* and spools realy nice and quick with fuel behind it. Normaly with my stock charger on the truck I drove around on level 2x5 on the Drag Comp but now I find my myself being able to drive on levels 3x5 and 4x5 with no problems with the EGT's. I haven't drove around on level 5x5 with it yet, the only time I used 5x5 was on the track over the weekend and ended up destroying my spider gears in the Dana 80. :( I'm looking forward to getting more seat time with it this week since I got the truck back together yesterday. As of right now I'm happy with it. I tried running a waste gated housing HTB2 but the actuator hit the shock tower on my 99. I've heard they have fixed the problem by shortening the rod but I also heard it's on been shortened and 1". I know my engine torques over more than that under a hard pull. I see normally 35 to 40lbs of boost but have had it as high as 50lbs while on the street. I'd say it's going to be a good turbo for anyone under say 530ph. I'll dyno the truck at Scheid's nice week to see what kind of HP gain I got, but by the seat of my pants I'd say 30 or 40hp, but it drives super nice, with no surging, so I'd say it be a real hot set up for someone towing as well.

DB

Darrell, what are you running for injectors? Are you saying this turbo with the 14cm housing spools fine for towing or would you suggest the 12? Thanks.

Scott,

I'm running 150hp BD injector now. I haven't towed anything with the new turbo yet but with my 4:10 gears and the 5sd I would say the 14 will work great. There isn't much difference in lag from my HTB2 than I had with my stock 35/12. I know on my truck it didn't clear the smoke up any but it sure made the power smoother to use, and having the power come on smooth like it does now would be super nice for towing big loads. I can't wait till I can get the camper behind the truck and see what this thing will do, It's gonna be fun towing again. :)

DB

DB thats cool that it spools that quick, I got the smaller 12 housing so spool time should be great, Did you get the turbo wheels cliped? Did any one else? have that done too.

Any way I think my down pipe will be in today.

Any new info on the htb2? Exactly how much does it cost. . Feel free to pm me the price. Thanks

around $1000 + or - for options

HOLY COW guys this turbo spools as fast as a stock HX-35, I just got it broke in on the way to work today. And only have about 10 miles that I was able to play with it. I still was taking it easy on it but looks like 35 to 37 with no box on is about it for boost. I was also able to hit 35 psi in 2nd gear when leaving a stop light :) WOW is all I can stay. I have no info in EGT but smoke is a lot lighter. Driving normal in stop and got traffic I seem to have less smoke.

will post more tomarrow when I get to drive the truck again
