for some reason the signature didn't post? I have an 02 with tons of mods. Also I would like to add that it has a really cool sound above 20 psi of boost.

Paul @ HTT indicated it will fit on a stock third gen manifold. I guess I assumed this was including a wastegate. Can anybody verify that? I hope it fits because I'm as much as ordered one :D

once i get my lift done (check my "WHAT DO I DO NOW" thread) and fix my rubbing problem, im getting some traction bars from rob... . Then im getting one of these turbos :) im getting a fully loaded one :) ill run it w/ my ez for now and maybe throw in my tst box but then ill need a trans LOL

I just got done putting one on my truck this weekend. So far so good. Seems to spool as quick if not quicker then the stock one. 39psi right away. Could be more I think the tst gauges stop at 39, not sure. Waiting for a call back from mark at tst. Whistles very loud! As I said before so far so good. Had to rotate the compressor housing so that it would fit. Then had to lenghten the intercooler tube. And no the Banks down pipe isn't a direct fit. The flanges are different. Could have made it work, but I figured on sending it back and getting my $200 back. Just fabbed up the down pipe i had. Any questions just ask. Lee.

I got my Down pipe from piers for $150. A direct bolt in place pipe NO WELDING... . Only problem was with the waste gate rod, had to put a small dent in the down pipe to make sure the rod wouldn't touch. tomarrow when I get off work I will put some much needed miles on it. Then I will be able to give you guys a better up date on how it works. I work 24hr shifts at the firehouse, Thats why I am still at work.

I will post more tomarrow. Oo. :D

scrach that,

It has to do with the quick reply botton, above was using the quick reply witch is what I was using in the past few post, this is using the post reply botton.

fingers crossed the signature should work

Built my down pipe today from a hx40 donor turbo goes on tomorrw Oo. I got the standard 62mm with the medium wastegate really looking forward to the new found BOOST!!!

Chrisw, your sig will only show up once per thread that you post in.
It's not once per thread, it's once per page. It will show on your first post of any given page.

In realize this is the 3rd gen forum but this seems to be where everyone is posting about this turbo. I just got mine (62mm) installed Sunday . This is my first turbo upgrade on this truck (previous was a powerstroke) so I have nothing to compare it to but my stock HY9.

First the good points. Wow, when you give it the gas this thing spools fast, almost as fast as my HY9. EGT's are definately down. Getting it to go over 1000 pre takes quite a bit of gas. Once over that it climbs fairly slowly. Highest I got it to was 1300 pre turbo on level 5x5, this was unloaded on a 6-7% grade. I didn't see how high EGT could go because the egt was going up slowly and didn't want to be over 1200 too long, the turbo only has 3 days on it, and my speedo had already passed the 3 figure mark. My wastegate still needs to be adjusted. No surging and it has only mildly barked once when I let off the gas too fast from full spool.

A few bad points though. Install was harder than it should have been. The oil drain needs to be dented to clear the wastegate actuator rod. The wastgate has been shortned from earlier releases but it still is within 1/2" of my shock tower. I haven't had it hit under engine torque though. The manifold mount is studless on all 4 holes and I had to buy two 3/8"x1. 5" bolts to make up for the missing studs. They did include all the needed gaskets though. The downpipe wasn't too bad. I upgraded to a full 4" system from Rip and he substituted a HX40 down pipe with no flange for just a little bit more. I then had the HTB2 flange cut down and welded on.

The turbo is a bit lacking down low and doesn't start spooling till about 1500rpm. Boost is 5psi at 1900rpm and 70mph. I don't think this will be an issue towing because underload on the hills it was doing 10psi+ and this is where the turbo really wakes up. The EGT's ranged between 600-700 while cruising and hitting 900 is easy without much more gas. Getting above 1000 is more difficult though. The turbine whistle noise is a little louder than what I would like but that is a personal opinion. I could hardly hear it with the stock box but the turbo was choking so I added a BHAF. Any suggestions on how to quiet it down some?

Edit: I pinched the O ring at the turbo coupler, boost is 8-10 psi at cruise.

P. S. I had the DD3's on for a day before I added the new turbo and exhaust. There is a reason they aren't recommended with the HY9. EGT's weren't too bad but I left a smoke trail during most of my driving.

These first hand reports are great! I'm interested in trying to get a group deal on this turbo. Anybody else intend to buy one in the very near future? Shoot me a PM.

If you think the turbo screams with a BHAF, you should hear how loud it is with an AFE filter. :D

I didn't have to modify the oil return at all. And going from a HY, all of your upgrade turbos require the purchase of at least 2 mounting bolts.

What did you say? I can't hear too well anymore since I put in my new turbo. :) :-laf

Torque This is very right, this puppy is screamer with an AFE. :p

I don't know about on an 03 or newer but on my 99 there is no comparison. It's like a 747 trying to come through the glovebox.

Not too sure what it will be like on long trips but after my 3 hour drive to Terre Haute Thursday I will tell ya. :)
