Howdy all,
Well, I vowed to never let the mod bug bite me. Yet, here I am... I’ve tried searching this topic many times, finding just as many answers. I would like help sorting through everything. I’m looking for a small bump in power with an increase in mileage. I use the pickup for going to the pasture and pulling the stock trailer some. I’m not looking to upgrade turbos. I was looking at RV275s, but got greedy and started wanting more, like 75 hp ones from DAP. If I have the EZ turned all the way up, will the clutch be able to hold the power of the 75s? If not, which injectors would be the best option? I know I can run with the EZ on a lower setting, just if I want to use full power, I don’t want to run the risk of slipping the clutch.

Thanks!

Just recently had to replace the head gasket on the wife's truck so I went all in and did it the right way. Had the head sent out, ARP head studs, new valves, springs, retainers, seats, threaded & freeze plugs, and replace the old stock OEM injectors with Bosch RV 275 hp injectors. The injectors were a very nice step up in power but not radical and the wife likes it just as is now. I had to compromise with her as she did NOT want any gauges in her truck but after I explained the importance, she went along with a fuel pressure gauge. ;) No smoke issues or problems with the stock clutch and fuel pressure remains good. Her truck does not have an EZ on it like mine does. My trucks has F1 Mach 1.6 (I suspect probably larger) injectors and the stock original OEM clutch is able to hold the power as long as the truck is not heavily loaded. With a load of firewood it will definitely slip the clutch if I apply too much power accelerating. So I just take it easy on it. Eventually I will replace the clutch with a South Bend when the current clutch is worn out.

The wife's truck as it is now will not set the filterminder indicator but my truck with the bigger injectiors and EZ would set the filterminder indicator off all the time even with a brand new filter installed and the EGT's would go though the roof so I upgrade to a BHAF & Farm Boy Performance 5 inch straight pipe turbo back exhaust to keep things in check. You will have to try yours out and observe what it does and adjust accordingly but I seriously doubt you will have any issues with Bosch RV 275 injectors.

Whatever you decide be certain to use the highest quality parts. BOSCH is probably best route for you. If you don't already have I suggest getting a aftermarket cold air intake/filter kit and larger diameter exhaust. More fuel in needs more air in, don't necessarily need, for what you're looking to do, more boost but you'll need to keep an eye on EGTs not just your clutch. You do have gauges, right? At least fuel psi and egt. Boost gauge would be good too. If you don't have gauges and on budget/being frugal you could get A-pillar two pod mount and fuel & combo egt/boost gauges. Remember it's a slippery slope = hum a little more power is nice...:)

The RV275's and an EZ work perfectly with a stock clutch. My neighbor just replaced his stock LUK clutch on his 98.5 NV5600 at 200K. Never slipped and the exhaust is clean. The boost elbow or J-hook help with the air. He's run the stock intake with stock paper filter since 1999. EGT's and boost are fine.

It was hit or miss on the stock clutch with 275's and an EZ. Mine was ok with the 275's but when the EZ was added that was it for the stock clutch.

Without the EZ the injectors gave a mild power increase but with higher EGT's. The box and elbow really wakes them up. He tows a pretty good sized cabin cruiser fishing boat locally and a heavily loaded utility trailer from San Diego to Colorado every year for hunting but no long distance heavy towing.

Thanks for the quick replies. I have a 4 inch turbo back straight pipe and 3 pillar gauges (fuel pressure, boost, and pyro). My clutch is a South Bend rated for 400 hp and 800 torque. Are reman Bosch worth it? DAP has decent prices for reman Bosch.

Another question. How much torque would an injector rated for up to 50 hp add? I’ve heard it’s roughly double, depending what RPM I’m at.

I recommend the RV275's, they are a Cummins oem and are all new Bosch, not a recon. They give about 40/90. I just changed out my old set 300k+ with a new set. They work good and last a long time. I used the Edge EZ/RV275's for 12 years on my '01, no issues at all with the stock clutch. That combo dynos 335/800 to the ground.

Trailrancher94, with what you have (stated in post yesterday @ 11:01) you should be fine. Just be sure when pulling a load and going up grade to watch EGTs. As Nisaacs mentioned new, not remanufactured, BOSCH RV 275'. I feel they'd be best bet for your application and provide many years and miles of satisfaction.

I got my Bosch RV 275 injectors and injector tubes from Geno's. They were about the only place I could find them in stock at the time about 2 months ago.

Call Geno's and talk with them to see if what they have are new or remanufactured. I'd think even if they only sell remanufactured they have a strong vendor vetting method to keep from selling junk so I feel you'd be fine with Geno's.

I don't think Geno's sells injectors anymore. They do still carry the tubes.

I got mine from DAP. New Bosch RV275's and Bosch tubes, very reasonable.

Guess I must have bought the last set of 6 they had. When I ordered mine, Genos showed 7 were left in stock.
