Why not Aluminum Bodies?

bosio injectors

I've seen all the posts about the injector problems the early D-maxs have been having and the long lines for the updated or whatever they are injectors.

But are the new injectors any better or has anyone had them long enough to find out? I might be looking at getting a used one for a family hauler and for light towing use.

TIA

Nathan

I have an '01 with 63 K miles and no injector problems. But then again there are people reporting repeated failures with the new ones. Some suspect a materials issue with Bosch. Bosch is blaming fuel contamination and improper filtering for the erosion but that doesn't explain the cracked nozzles! The newest ones are supposed to be the correct hardness etc but so far GM and Bosch are pointing fingers at each other.

As far as a shortage of injectors, they are available locally (miami) at my dealer. They have changed out several sets.

I assume you have been following the posts on the Diesel Page?

Just be aware there is a 200 K mile factory warranty for the 01-03 lb7 equipped trucks on the injectors. Standard 100K mile warranty on the engine and related controls. transmission is under the same warranty as the rest of the truck. I have had no problems with mine. It is a beast and is a damn nice truck. Edge juice brings it all together. Just remove it before you take it in for any service work.

Oh yeah--Mine's for sale :)

The LLY injector tips are SIGNIFICANTLY different. There is no check ball slamming into the nozzle holder with every injection event, so there shouldn't be any injector body cracking like there was with the LB7 injectors. It's an interesting little sleeve and shim arrangement in the LLY. Takes the stress off the holder.

Nozzle cracking- wow, that's what you get with common rail pressures if every thing isn't just right...

The LLY injectors are better but they still have their fair share of problems. They are easier to change out though being that they are outside the valve covers.

I'm just kinda of alil shy of buying one (and knowing me putting a box on it) and running into a warranty fight with GM. I've been down that road once with my Dodge right after I bought it from a used dealership. That cost me my truck for 6 months doing the lawyer thing.

I guess that depends on the dealer or whatever mandate mother GM passes down the pipe as far as warranty requirements. My dealer is tolerant of power adders within reason. However I would remove the Juice when taking it in for service just as a precaution. I dont know what effect the new programmers would have on the ECM. It has been said the Edge box leaves no trace on the earlier trucks other than whatever codes have been set when failure occours. Those failures have arguably not been juice related.

The "hot" version will leave you in need of transmission mods. The standard box alone gives an advertised 390 HP 720 lbft torque. It will push the fifth gear clutches to the limit on the Allison. They are not dogs in stock form either if you can wait out the warranty period (100K). I installed a 4" exhaust and noticed no difference in performance except a better exhaust tone.

You cant find a more comfortable cab IMHO. The only reason I'm selling mine is health/economic reasons. I love my new/old('95) Dodge Cummins but the lack of a real back seat makes me want for the 'ol Chevy at times.
