I was just wanting to gather some info and ideas of when you should change out injectors. I have a 2000 with stock injectors with 152,000 miles. I am set up wtih an edge juice w/attitude. In the past year i have noticed i have had to add more injector cleaner to keep the truck running its best (i know some of this is because of the new Low Sulfter fuel) but i have been trying to look into what injectors and what would suit me best. I am really not wanting to upgrade much more than the stock injectors so i can keep my Fuel Milage high.

At what point do most people need to change injectors, i have also heard you can take them out and i guess there is a spring that you can shim to make tight again.

Any thoughts would be helpfull thanks

CH

talk to dealers on this site (II,MWFI,ect. ) about cleaning/shimming/"pop"testing. It will also help you evaluate who you would like to deal with in the future. Also wanted to say I got better milage when I changed to moderately larger injectors.

Ditto on better economy w/higher hp sticks. I'm running Mach 5s and no bs the economy is better than the previous Mach 1. 6, which was better than stock . . . go figure. I like it!

I had the 275rv's in my 01 HO 6spd they worked great didnt need to turn edge box on when towing ran like a raped ape. the injectors went for about 320. 00 no core

Thanks i will do some looking around, how hard is it to pull my injectors and inspect to see if they need to be replaced, or should i just consiider with 152,000 miles i should just upgrade?

Thanks again

CH

You would like the RV 275s and there priced right.

Ditto on that! They can be had for $300, no core, all day long through MWFI on E-Bay. I just finished putting them in yesterday to go along with the Edge EZ, boost elbow, and shift kit I installed a couple months ago, and and all I can say is wow! The truck runs and drives better than ever; wish I hadn't waited so long, but I wanted to preserve the extended warranty. I also adjusted the valves while I was in there and that helped as well.

RV275'S. Used to laugh at 'em, now I got some and love 'em. Go figure.

Im trying to understand if you have had bigger injectors b4 or are 275's the 1st step you have ever taken?

I on the other hand am SERIOUSLY thinking about coming down to RV's from where I am now.

I just dunno if I am gonna have enough fuel to get up and scoot or be slower than molasses in the winter?

I have run stock, DD1, 2, 3, super mentals (stage 4), Mach 1. 0s and RV275's.

Started out running the DD1's for a few years with good success, then went to 3's. Ran the 3's a couple yrs (slightly overfueled and ran hot while pulling heavy up grades) tried some used 2's and then 4's for grins & giggles. You need some pretty good turbo to run those, better yet twins due to lag.

Then went down to 275's, then to Mach 1's and finally back to the 275's. They are the keepers.

All sets were brand new except for the 2's & 4's were slightly used. The 2's were decent inj's, but the 4's turned the oil & tailpipe black in no time.

When it had to do actual work (pulling a 28ft 5th wheel) The truck was happiest and ran best overall with the RV275s or DD1s. Those injectors along with the old style Van Aaken Plug n Power box made it the most drivable it has ever been. It had more than enough low end torque & snappiness, and also was a great rock crawler as well.

Now I tend to believe anything over 65-100 HP injectors without additional turbo mods, and you have an overfueled truck.

Just my opinion.

Rout,

I took out the EDM's and dropped in the 275's, WOW whatta difference, day and nite, Way Smoother, Im Happier and didnt notice that much of a signifigance powr loss, just noticeable,

overall, Im Happier:):):):):):)

Alright! Good for you. I don't remember what level injectors you had before (M2's?), maybe they were pretty heavy on the fueling for the amount of air you had. .

But yeah, I figured they would be not worth the difference above stock to even try them. Then finally in a quest for better MPG's & smoother throttle off the bottom gave em a shot. Liked them right from the start. Not saying EDM's are bad, in fact the 1. 0's were pretty smooth, but the drivability of the 275's if you dont mind a mellow truck is hard to beat. Add a fueling box to them, and you have a wide range of power availability.

Added: Hopefully you will see lower avg egt's as well.

I did have the 2's, yes, however I dont see much noticeable difference in EGT's, or @ least I dont remember any problems,

I hope that I get better mileage is all, but if I dont I gained a smoother truck:)

Right where I started almost 3 years ago, except the juice att.

My truck has been pretty much bone stock except for the Van Aaken module. When the RV275 injectors were installed last August I noticed a good bit of power increase (seat of the pants feel) and it seems that I am getting better fuel mileage. Only put 800 miles on it since August so hard to tell.

I do know though that it will pull hills with a 8,000 lb load without even whimpering where before it drug down to about 55 mph.

The vp44 was changed out at the same time, so part of the new performance might be from that.
