new is better?

Just thinking and wonder if the new frames on the new trucks are better . I think of the box frames on trailers that have had the brackets of the spring packs pull away from the frame due to rust or just too thin , I know that a box frame is stronger than a thicker I beam but what affect will rust from out side or inside do ????? Could this be like the Rubber roof on trailers that the industry pushed on the consumer just about ten years ago ??? How thin is the steel and is it coated in side and out or protected in any way ??? The frames on the new trucks are still fairly thick. Before my 2nd gen was sold I compared the frame thickness. The '05 frame steel is almost as thick as the C section on my old truck. Thinner yes, but I can't imagine it rusting through very easily.
