Have just installed the new K&N Aircharger this passed week and so far the results seem very good.

In general the throttle response seems better, along with more mid-range power. Just returned from a trip into southeastern Ohio with a 7000 # load and it handled the hills quite well. The in cab noise levels are not much above

stock except under heavy throttle. Kit was easy to install and looks good.

K&N part #63-1025

Purchased from Macromotive.com $244. 00

I posted pics of mine a week or so ago in the drivetrain forum here is the link

ILLFLEM, I got mine in Missoula for $234 @ Gomers

I don't know if they can be bought with out filters, I agree with Steve Phillips on performance gains. HOWEVR Oil filter acccess is restricted much more. , most will want to remove the elbow when service the filter.

The AFE Mega Cannon is a good set up to consider also.

I would like to know if the black J-shaped tube is metal, hard plastic, soft rubber, etc. .

I am trying to determine if the tube would be strong enough to drill and tap a fitting.

Thanks!!

The intake tube is hard plastic that is glass smooth on the inside,I think it could be topped.

They are only sold with the filter,it has a deeper pleat than the standard filtersto prevent

collaspe from the high air flow.

The plastic is hard, but not brittle. Easily Tapped..... Propane I would guess would be the reason for tapping:D A Member responded to my other post feeling that the air flowing over the plastic surface of the tube would create static, thus slowing down airflow. Don't know if this is going to happen in our application, but I will be adding a ground wire to the stainless support attachment screw anyway.

that is the same K&Nthat is in my GN. I know some of you guys work in fab shops . Anyone interested in fabbing a chrome or stainless steel pipe like the plastic one K&N offers???? hmmmm, did a light bulb just light up??;)

Jim, I've seen the AFE Mega Cannon setup..... pretty nice (The PowerShop sells them). However, I prefer the looks of the new K&N setup.

Steve, is that called their FIPK?

Too bad I can't install one of these... my Air Bulldog induction hood/components preclude this.

Steve,

Does the rubber edge seal up against the hood?

Did it lower your EGT's?

I like the looks of the K&N better then the Mega Cannon because the M. C. doesn't do anything to block the underhood heat from entering the airfilter. But then I can't really tell if the K & N system does either, from the pictures it just looks that way.

My buddy has a setup like this for his chevy tahoe. That one sealed itself agains the hood. Sounds sweet on a gasser V8. I dont see why the setup would be any different

Maybe tapping for both :D :D

My new K&N kit finally showed up today and just got it installed. Very nice piece. Fit well although I had to tweak mine a bit to clear the shock tower brace. I would recommend it to anyone in the market for this type of filter. Just had to share... .....

hey bigcarl64, brandon installed one of these things this weekend on a customers truck while we fixed up old smokey. The tube is hard plastic, and im not sure if you would want to tap it, but i bet you could use an -an bulkehead fitting from earls. It would be a real clean way to introduce the hp augmentation gasses;)

The factory filter minder goes in the end of the filter provided by k&n. This is a very clean looking set up, and does appear to seal against the hood (the truck it was put on this weekend was an 2002 without the underhood insulation  so it was hard to tell exactly) Note that there is a significant (@ 2")gap between the heat shield and firewall, and also a gap between the heat shield and passenger fender. so it is not a "sealed" system. I am thinking about going this route and then cutting the 4 " hole like used in the psychotty system. a little sheet metal to fill the gaps and bam, fresh air from the cowl and fender area.

rubbereck, I think you are on the right track with your sealing to the firewall/fender and Scott1 type cowl fresh air plans. Let us know how it works out.

One way or the other, I'll eventually have this set up since I've already got the cowl opening, be foolish not to.

I have 2 questions

1. What is the benefit (besides the heat off the turbo) to block the filter off like that in th ecorner---- it seems it would restict airflow.

2. anyone check to see if they offer a group purchase on these setups???

BTW we are talking about a setup on this thread

For all interested...

I am trying to put together an airbox that will allow use several different filter options (owners choice) that will also have several selectable options for the air source for the engine. The filters being considered right now would be the AFE (one like the mega cannon) K&N RE-0880, might try the new one posted in this thread if people like them. Now are there any other cone filters that people want to use? I don't think I can fit the BHAF inside but I am looking into it.

I am not ready to say it is available but if all goes as planned I will post + may make them available to members. Hopefully I will have info in the next 10 days or so.

Bud, possible advantages on the enclosed filter; cleaner air, I drive a lot of gravel roads, the filter has to constantly deal with the dust kicked up by the front tires and judging from how often I've got to clean the engine compartment, that's a lot of dust. By drawing air from the stock fender opeing, and in my case, the 4" hole I've got in the cowl ductwork, I'll get postive air pressue in the filter box as well as cleaner air.

Then there's the benefit of cooler air in the summer. Wintertime, I might work on ducting warm air to the box. I think Illflem is right about warm air being beneficial to combustion in cold weather.

And although with going on 10k of driving with the BHAF it hasen't been a problem, less possibility of the filter getting wet.

moparguy, where did you drill your hole in your cowl and what did you put in the studs to cover them from the stock airbox???
