2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 4x4 problem

Had a tail lamp go out last night - you know fast blink = burned out lamp. So today figured I'd upgrade to the Super Bright Red LEDs. They are nice but, the turn signal blinker blinks way to fast. Just like when the lamp was burnt. Funny thing is the emergency flashers blink normally? Anyone have this happen when switching to the LEDs? Freaking fast blink is driving me nuts :{.

If I change to a slower flasher for the turn signals will it give the lamp out warning (fast flash) when one goes bad?

Need electronic flasher

The regular flasher you have will see the L. E. D. flasher as a bulb out condition because the new l. e. d. has such a light elec load (looks like a bulb out condition) go get a electronic flasher and your problem should be solved.

Trico makes a replacement electronic flasher that is a variable resistance type.

I bought one for approx $15 at Napa. All of my lights are LED now and they flash properly now.

part# EP-27

Actually the combination flasher unit in 1998. 5-2002 trucks is electronic. According to the DC service manual it contains "active electronic Integrated Circuitry elements. "

As posted by BRobertson, the Trico EP-27 replacement will work with LED's. TDR member Shelby Griggs pushed Trico for this flasher: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36595

My truck uses separate flasher units for the turn signals and the emergency flashers. If your emergency flashers work correctly and the turn signals don't why not swap the flasher units and see if the turn signals work correctly?

Early second generation trucks had two flasher units, one for the turn signals and one for the emergency flashers. Late second generation Rams have a single flasher unit. Thread-starter JoeMc has a 1999 Ram - a truck with but one flasher unit.

A bit more on the resolution of the rapid-flash-with-led's problem can be seen here: http://turbodieselregistry.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1158060

When I built the body for a brush truck for our fire department I ran into this using led tail lights. I wired in 2 regular heavy duty flashers using 4 12" jumpers wired between the panel and the flashers tied up under the dash. The oe flasher has 5 terminals, 2 power ( one for turn signals, one for 4 ways ), 2 output, 1 ground. Wire the flashers between the power and output terminals, leaving the ground terminal vacant.
