I had my left hip replaced 8 days ago. The physical therapist and I went out in the garage to see if I can get in OK. The center seat console needs to come out for awhile and I could use any tips to make this happen, Thanks

Probably just four bolts holding it to the floor. But there may be a module of one kind or another under it; be careful with any wiring which isn't intended to be fully exposed.

Where are you at? If close by I'll gladly remove it for you. Jess

Very nice offer. Would you like to come to Anchorage Alaska next week?Just kidding and thanks a for the offer. No just a quick run down on how to take it out would be fine. My stepson will do it for me. Thanks again, your my kind of guy.

I really just need the fold up part removed so I can slide across the seat to get in,but if its easier remove the whole center?

Just curious, Why can't you just fold up the center console? I shattered my pelvis in 7 places so I kind of understand what your going through as far as getting in just kind of confused at your method. But on the other hand, I had a pretty interesting way of getting in my truck also. lol

Anyways you will have to fold your front seat foward and then on both sides of the console there is a plastic cover that can be removed with a phillips head screwdriver. underneath the cover you should find the bolt to take the console out. Its been about 6 years or so since I took one out so I maybe leaving a part out but its not hard.

My 3rd Gen looks real easy, bolts through the floor and an electrical plug for what? Must be my seatbelt tattletale.

I am coming to Anchorage, just not next week. My son graduated college last June, and started his new job at Providence Hospital in Anchorage last October.

Kind of miss him alot, but June/July sounds like better timing.

To help answer your question from above Turbo Terry is a LARGE dude 6 Ft6 and 300 lbs so I need all the room I can get for the slide in backwards to get my left foot in at the door /floor area and pivot . The seat center console folded up with the seats back all the way back (regular cab) hits me square in the left side. It will just be much better with it out.

Hey Turbo Terry welcome to the Joint replacement club I had my knee replaced at 37 and I am going to be 51 this yr total so far just on left knee alone is 23 surgeries and doing good yeah I feel your pain being tall I'm 7 ft n 350 lb's and on a Reg cab truck it's Really hard for that reason I haven't driven a reg cab truck in yr's but take care of yourself and hope the healing is quick Man trust me i am sure you know but the Cold will drive your joint Nut's .

Hey Terry - hang in there! As my doc told me every time he saw me - better days are ahead! I had my right hip replaced 15 months ago. As I'm sure you know by now, do your exercises - it really helps a lot. Then later, walking is the best thing for it. For the first year, if I missed my walk a few days in a row, I really felt it. Walking makes it feel much better as it heals, believe it or not. I'm still getting better even now - doc said it would continue to improve for years. Mine was really bad before. Now I have no limp at all. Sorry to be slightly off topic - good luck with your recovery!

I took mine out immediately after buying my truck since it was useless as a middle seat in manual trans/4wd truck with 2 shifters where a passenger's feet need to go and it was equally useless for storage. Unbolting it is easy; it comes right out on my 96. But it leaves the sharp-edged brackets that are attached to the seats, so I removed the seats and used a grinder on the rivets that held them, too. I then found a much more functional center console at walmart that matched my interior and cost $30 (it was for a minivan it said on the package. ) Highly functional upgrade for $30.

You can get the whole center part out by removing the 4 bolts on the bottom. A ratching wrench would help, they are close to the floor.

As mentioned above, it does leave the 4 brackets sticking out a little above the floor.

+1 on taking the fold-up part off, if that'll do the job for you. I've been messing with seat tracks on mine, and the bracketry is complex & welded to other parts of the seat brackets.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery...

Removing the center console is a money maker. I found about eight dollars in change :-laf. Good luck with your recovery.
