in this months mopar muscle, they show a holley "blue" fuel pump.

it flows 110gph free flow and 70 gph at 9psi. the pressure is preset at the factory with 14psi. rotor van design is more tolerant of contaminated fuels. now the catch is that it says not designed or recommended for use to fuel injection systems. It may not work for a gasser, but i wonder if it could be tweaked for a diesel as a lift pump.

The reason that it is not recommended for fuel injection is the higher pressures required. It should work fine on our engines.

In posts about the holley black and red pumps I have read that they are not designed for continous use and not rated for diesel...

Gary, I've been trying out the Holley 815 Black for 18+ months and it seems to holding up rather well. There are numerous threads on the Holley pumps, do a search.

My Opnion

Steve,

I've read thru all those post since I became a member. Maybe I have an oddball pump, but that doesn't explain the good track record of the 815 on other trucks in my neck of the woods that are running them.

It all boils down to an opnion and everyones got a different one. I'm glad that I've done my research with the help of the TDR and others, and then chosen what I thought was going to be the best products to use on MY TRUCK

I have read thru threads and post about how bad some products are. I'm glad I didn't listen. Lets see

Jardine exhaust suck, because of the drone, not mine, it has a 4" resonator on it.

Majestic Turbos suck, the only reason I took mine off the truck was to put the variable on. I'd match it up aganist anybodys HX40 including Piers.

Six States Clutches suck, I put mine in the same time as the Holley. Been to the track, towed to May Madness and back, survives my wifes abuse (shes not so great with a clutch) and mine.

Had I followed the flock, who knows how much I would have spent in upgrading time and time again. I would not recommend the Holley 815BLACK It is obviously a POS just read what the flock is saying.

as far as the fuel pump goes what would it care if its pumping gas ,diesel, maybe IM missing some thing but you would think diesel would provide more lube than gas???What am I missing?

Gary, the best way to start that kind of research is with the search function. Click on search in the upper right hand corner and search on "mallory". There have been many different pumps out there tried with nearly all of them having some positive and some negative experience.

Weircummin - maybe you misread my post. In no way did I say that anything sucked. I was simply trying to give him the information that he asked for by giving him a link to a search of the posts out there. I did mention that some people are running them with good results. There are definately a lot of opinions out there and I was trying to give him access to all of the opinions that have been given on the site so far.

Diesel is heavier and more viscous than gas, so it's harder to pump, and it's chemically different, so in theory a pump could have internal parts that react poorly with diesel and not gas. But you're right in that most pumps probably wouldn't care.

i seen mallory was mentioned, anyone have luck with these?

Several different Mallory pumps have been tried with varying degrees of success..... Most though have not lasted over 6 months to a year.

Hmmmm..... let's see. One year and 28,000 miles on a Holly Black Pump. It just keeps buzzing away. (kinda like a Timex... it takes a licking and keeps on ticking. ) The only drawback that I can see is that it can be a bit noisy if mounted directly to the frame rail. But that is an easy fix also, with 1/2" rubber isolator pads. Also the black pump doesn't need a fuel regulator like some of the others. 12 pounds at idle and never seen it drop below 10. Cold weather will make the pump pressures drop slightly.

Am I happy with it? (you bet!)

it is amazing at how many problems these trucks have. i think we all should take our lift pumps and track bars and dowel pins and lay them on dieter zetches desk at chrysler. In fact yesterday as i was working on my dodge ram with 55,000 mile replacing another track bar, my dog got out of the gate and was killed by a car. she was a good chow, 11 years old and very loyal. I was under the truck and she decided to sneak out for some reason, dunno why... . maybe it was the storm that was coming. So needless to say I'm not to happy with my ram.

Gary, Sorry to hear about your dog. I know how hard it is to loose mans best Friend.

Steve, I never made the assumption that you said the Holley sucked. What I said is that if you read thru the threads on fuel pumps, members say that it doesn't work. I have not read any positive comments on these pumps, maybe I missed something:eek:

Jerry, I'm glad you jumped in on the thread. I am the one who talked NXS into using the 815. Maybe it's a Texas thing, but the ones that are running on trucks down here are doing well.
