Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) New LP preperation ?

I have just bought my first replacement LP at 30,300 miles, I bought it from Freightliner for $133. 00 + tax. I am going to install it when my Wildcat Max Flow Kit arrives.



My question is... would it be harmful to the LP to pour some 15w40 through it before I put it on the truck? My first thoughts are that it would be fine, but I just wanted some reassureance.



It probably doesn't make much difference to the LP, but I am paranoid about fuel pressure and LP life. I just thought it would be good to have some instant lube in there instead of waiting for the draw from the tank. We are probably only talking seconds here but what the heck. I wish I could afford the FASS right now, but I think the Wildcat Kit is a good product too.

are there any non metalic parts in the pump? the solvent in wd40 will damage gaskets and o rings. use a pure lubricant like Brake Free.

Some guys preprime the system by pressurizeing the fuel tank.



Use low pressure, maybe no more than 20 Lbs max. stick the air chuck in the filler hole and stuff a rag around it pressurize the fuel tank, bump the starter a few times and you should be good to go.

ffken... . Sorry if I was unclear, what I meantwas 15w40 engine oil.



Dan... . I use Stanadyne Performance Formula in every tank. I never thought of using that for lubing the pump during replacement, I feel it certainly helps when used normally. Sounds like a pretty good idea. Do you think that either one in high concentration ( at least for the for the first couple seconds ) would bad once the engine starts, after the starter bumps ??

one time when I changed a lift pump I also changed the fuel filter. I needed the new lift pump to fill the fuel canister. It WOULD NOT!!! The dry pump would not suck enough to move fuel! I took off the inlet line and shot in a little motor oil and it worked fine. I don't care if you use a shot of diesel, motor oil, or additive. I'll leave that call up to you. But, I CERTAINLY recommend putting something in it! The dry rotors don't always seal well enough to move fuel after an install!

Just curious why you would buy and install a new lift pump when it looks like it should be covered by warranty. I also just installed a fuel pressure guage at 30,000 and looks like I have low pressure but Im going to let dealer replace for now.
