Just returning from the “AMSOIL UNIVERSITY” in Superior Wisconsin, and Amsoil has a new transmission fluid for the NV-5600 transmission! It is called (MTF) Manual Transmission Fluid, and is a 5W-30 designed for certain manual transmissions that require an engine oil (GL-1) formulation, which will perform even better than the (HDD) Series 3000 5W-30 engine oil. This new technology will provide improved gear and bearing protection and smooth synchromesh shift quality from –40 to 300 PLUS Deg. F. It is NOT for use in engines!! It has the Chrysler spec MS-9224 and MS-9417 as well as the Chrysler part #4874464 & 4874465 printed on the containers. MTF is recommended for oil drain intervals up to 2 times longer than OEM.

After seeing the “SPECS. ” On this lube, I am going to drain out mine and install this fluid! It is some awesome stuff!

The other Manual transmission fluid is (MTG) Manual Transmission/Transaxle Gear lube GL-4 which was designed specifficly for NV-4500 transmissions in Both Dodge and GM trucks. It has the Chrysler part # 4874459 and the GM part # 12346190 printed on the containers.

These two fluids will be available after the 1st of June.

is the first one intended for the 5600?
Yes, the (MTF) Manual Transmission Fluid as they call it, is specifically for the NV-5600 in our trucks. They emfisized, it is NOT TO BE USED IN AN ENGINE!

Now I know why I have been procrastinating on this fluid change... . Does the June 1st date mean our local distributor should have it by then, or is there a lag?

As I understand it, the product will be in the warehouses on June 1st.

Thats strange, I missed that, Justin. They always had two different lubes for those two different transmissions.

If having the best lubricants on the market leads to more sales, I guess they would be guilty of that.

That's good to hear. FYI, I have been running the Amsoil 30wt powershift trans oil for about a year now. No problems, it shifts fine, and runs a little cooler than the OEM crap. I figured that the 50wt works real good in our big trucks, so the 30wt should do fine in the 5600. I may look at this new stuff now though

I think he's referring to the fact that for quite some time they said just use our engine oil... . it'll work just fine. Could that have been a rub your back tactic while we develop this new oil? The primary reason I went with RP synchromax was this. Why put an oil designed for engine conditions in a transmission. It's not hard to see lubrication requirements are far different in a transmission than an engine. I'm not questioning the quality of amsoil, I've been a user for many years. I just question them saying yeah sure use this oil... . then a couple years later changing their mind and saying, wait use THIS one now... are they going to put a label that says use either? If it were OK before... is it OK now?

Great news Wayne, thanks for sharing! I have an oil change on the NV4500 coming up soon, will be a good time to order the new stuff and throw on the Fast Coolers at the same time

You guys running Royal Purple, have you guys seen the viscosity spec @100C? I wouldn't feel good about towing with it in hot weather. http://www.royalpurple.com/prodsa/scmax.html

We've covered this before... The film strength's of synthetics make more of a difference than viscosity. But I see your point, and if it makes you happy I'll concede. If my transmission grenades I'll just replace it with a real one. Why dodge won't do this in the first place, or atleast provide the OPTION... never mind, I don't want to start a rant about Dodge again.

They quit making the gear lube that they recommend for the 4500, so they needed one there. Perhaps they have changed the 5-30 engine oil, also? Not sure.

However, they are many applications that Amsoil does not have lubes for, its not like they just pick one thats close. If it doesn't meet the specs for an application, they just tell you they don't have one. Been there lots of times.

I think if you looked close at the factory 5600 lube, it would have been very close to engine oil, but may have come up shy on engine oil additives.

Many, many transmissions call for 30wt engine oil. I think it was a sales tactic on Dodges part to sell a "special lube", just like Royal Purple perhaps?

Maybe Amsoil did feel they were losing sales because of the label. That would be consumer driven, which is what we all want from companies, to offer us what we want, is it not?

But I'm curious as why the RP cheerleaders felt they had to rush to this thread and let the world know what they run, on an Amsoil specific thread. The title was not, what gear oil do you run, it was about Amsoil.
