Yup, this is definitely a dead injection pump alright. It is covered under the 100k mi warranty... what are your miles at?

When the injection pump dies it will set a mis-fire/timing failure code in the ECM. When you don't know what's wrong, the only way to diagnose this is to plug in an OBD II scan tool to retrieve the code.

I just had it towed to the dealer. He's trying to tell me that there will be a $70 diagnosis charge. Like he doesn't already know what's wrong. When I told him I had the no start w/ the check engine lite on, I could see the "Oh no, not another VP44 look in his face. :--)

He'll call me later today or tomorrow and tell me what he's found. Like I said, I'll keep everone upto date on the level of service for this dealer, just in case anyone every is in the area and needs dealer time.

Here's an update on the dealer in Flemington, NJ.

He called yesterday and left a message. I returned his call and spoke to another service rep. that told me that my lift pump was dead. OK, they figured that part out. Then I was told that there was a parts hold for the pump and that it cost $349. 00.

So, I called back this morning and talked to the rep. that was handling my truck. He told me that the pump would be replaced under warranty!! He was waiting for the pump to come from the depot in Newark, NJ, and that it should be at his place this morning if they had one. If not, it would have to come from Michigan. They wouild install it and take it from there. I wonder how long it'll take him to get a new vP44?

Dealer rating so far: Good.

Latest update:

I stopped by the dealer on the way home from work. I missed my truck. :( I went in and talked to the rep. handling my service call. He said the VP44 was dead and being replaced under warranty. He'll try to have it back to me by tomorrow.

So far he's been real good about the warranty stuff. No complaints or gripes.

WOOHOO!!!

IT'S DONE!!! Oo. Oo. Oo.

Dealer just called and my baby is ready to come home!! NO CHARGE! The dealer replaced the lift pump and injector pump, etc. etc.

Thanks to all for all of your input and suggestions. This is one of the most informative sites I've run across.

Reading all the posts I've learned alot. I've also got a whole new set of questions running through my mind.

As for the dealer rating I promised:

Flemington Car & Truck Country Flemington, NJ - 5 Star.

Glad to see you were taken care of by your dealer. Dealers are only as good as their people. Mine has some service writers that don't know a diesel from a donkey. Their top diesel mechanics are great and know what they are doing. I have decided that in the future if something is broken then I will take it to the dealer, if it is covered under warranty. If it is a maintance item I will go to a local independent shop and save the $$$. Kind of a know the strengths and weakness of the vendors and go where it is best for me. Trouble is you get stuck on some of the deals until you figure out who is good and who isn't.
