4B in a Dodge Van?

hello all,

I have a opportunity to get a 6bt5. 9 engine from a stationary fire pump, very low hours and at a very low cost. I have a 1967 Chevrolet long wheel base step side one ton that I am considering installing this engine in. My question relates to what are the upsides and downsides of using this engine package, some of my thoughts are:

  1. can this off road engine be installed in a street truck
  2. can a transmission "auto preferred" be connected to the engine
  3. are accessory drives available, such as a/c power steering power brakes?

I do have the fab equipment to construct engine mounts ect, but would rather use factory accessory drive components if available.

Thanks for reading and any comments would be greatly appreciated.

You will have to do some research to see what the weight rating was on the front end. It might just need heavier springs. You can get the block plate (cast aluminum) from a Dodge and use a Dodge automatic. Note that you might need a Dodge powertrain computer some years, especially later ones, to run the trans. For that reason, and the lower strength of the earlier autos if you add power to the engine, a manual is an easier swap. If you get a five speed NV4500, it is best to get the Dodge V10 and diesel version. Come back when you have more specific questions; there is too much complexity to cover everything well at this point.
