Hello, This is my first time here and also I just bought my first truck. 2001 Quad, HO 6 speed, 3. 54 gears. I would like to know everyones advice on what is the first thing to change? I am interested in the best fuel mileage that I can get.

Let me be the first to welcome you aboard the TDR. If you want good mileage, the best advice I have ever heard is to hook something heavy to your truck and tow it around. Don't baby it at all, break it in hard and the milage will be better in the long run.

I totally agree, mine, which is about the same as yours, is the third diesel pickup I've owned. Every one of 'em I hitch up to a trailer and head on down the road, just don't let it get too hot or run it at sustained full throttle. I've also ran several "big rigs" they come right off the showroom, go under a trailer, and head down the highway. I'm sure you'll love your truck as much as we all love ours!!!

Welcome, Eagle.

I don't know where you are in IL, but we're having a TDR gathering in Tomah, WI this Sat. We have guys coming from WI, MN, maybe IA, and one guy might be coming from Chicago. E-mail me if you would like more info.

I would also agree with the others, and would like to add that even if you dont have a trailer to drag around just hit it hard going up hills and from a stop shift a little early into third and load it up a little, things will seat in good and should do well for you.
also i'm in southern IL near St. Louis Mo. and we are planning to meet next month around the 10th or 11th.

P. S. drop the tailgate on highway will help MPG's

Screamneagle, run the truck the way you plan on driving it. You can run it hard just don't abuse it. Around 2,000 miles change your oil to a good quality oil ie; Shell Rotella T or Chevron Delo 400 or any of several other good oils. Try not to hammmer the motor before it warms up and it will last forever!! Pete
