Good evening everyone.

I am researching the 2013 RAM 3500 CC 6. 7 Diesel DRW. I would like to find out about the new DEF in the

2013 Ram how it is operating. I've been reading horror stories over on the Ford and Chevy forums.

I have been reading about the Dodge 3500 6. 7 Diesels with the Cummins is the best around.

Heard the Aisin Transmission is really good. Would like to here if there are any problems to watch out for.

I plan on getting a TC for Exploring, Camping, Fishing and the Outdoors.

This will be my first Diesel Truck, call it my Bucket list so i will have a lot of questions. Hope you don't mind.

Look forward to your Replies. Thank You,

Scott

Welcome to TDR, you joined an informative group of people here, and I'm sure all of your questions will be answered. My C&C does not use the DEF so I can't comment on its use, but I can say the CTD in a light truck is the best choice. The 5. 9 and 6. 7 CTD is the only choice in my opinion, for a 2500/3500 pickup when a diesel is required for the planed use of it. Keep in mind that Dodge is going to DEF to help in mileage and reduce the amount of regeneration of the DPF. The pros and cons of the DEF for Cummins questions are for the MDT fleets at this point, although if you ask this question in the C&C forum you should get answers to your questions. The C&C went to DEF in 2012 I believe, and can give you an idea of using DEF with the 6. 7. Keep in mind though that the emissions are slightly different than the regular pickup. As to the Aison transmission, I have never read here on TDR about any major problems with the Aison. Knowing that the 3500/4500/5500 C&C's has been using that transmission in MDT operation, should tell you how durable the trans is. To compare it to the GM version of an Alison auto is not a good comparison, for the GM version is a weak copy of a real Alison automatic.

Good luck in your research and if you have any questions, please feel free to PM me anytime.

Steve

Welcome aboard Scott. A Dodge truck with a Cummins are the best of both worlds.

george

Thank You George.

I have heard a lot of good news about the Dodge with the Cummins Engine.

You have the Qual Cab i see. The newer trucks now are the Mega Cabs.

Do you know if they are as good as the Qual Cab?

Scott

Scott, the Mega cab is longer than the QC, also the Mega cab is only available in the short bed. When they came out with the Mega cab, I really liked it, but the short bed prevented me from buying one. As it is, my smaller QC 07 MY, is a pain in the butt, trying to back up to a fiver, so I installed a camera.

Thank You Steve, for the Clarification.
I will stick to the Crew Cab long bed 3500 DRW.

Do they make a quad cab in 2013? I thought they finally put a real back door on with a 6 or 8 bed and also offer the Mega. I really like my Mega but I wish it was an 8' bed. I'd go for a long bed 4 door 2013 if I was rich.

Thank you for the reply.

Yes you are correct in the price of the 8' long bed 4 door it is pricy.

I'll check if they put a real door and 8' foot bed on Mega for 2013.

I know there is no 8' bed mega. They made the rear doors on the regular 4 door bigger, like Ford and Chevy. I don't know if the Quad cab with the 3/4 size doors is still an option.

Thank you A. Mink for the information.

Looks like 6'4 bed for the Mega. May have to go with a B & W Companion slider hitch.

Like the bigger cab, but might sacrifice some towing weight for a 5er. Will have to

verify the Dodge tow guide rates for the Mega 3500 DRW.

Scott,
Welcome to TDR.
As a former Hawaii resident (big Island), I hope the price of diesel is better on Oahu than it was on Hawaii.
Even though our trucks seem to just sip fuel, the stuff is close to $5. 00/gal on the big island.
Be aware that it makes a difference even though you can not drive very far.

How long ago did you live on the Big Island, where at?
Yes, i have the sad story of saying Diesel is about that now on Oahu. Heck regular gas is 4. 24 a gallon!
I'll be relocating back to the Main land, in a couple of years. Will buy my Dodge then, won't have to worry
about not driving short distances. Seems these trucks need to be driven longer distance to operate better.
So now i am researching, which is hard.
Scott

Scott,
I was a Big Island resident from 1998 to 2008.
It was time to take some money off the table so we sold our home there.
We still love Hawaii and spend two or three months every year at our old condo complex (Kona Makai) which is about a mile south of Kailua-Kona.
Now we rent. Life is good.
I think diesel trucks are best used on the mainland working hard.

Rog,

I've been to Port Allen Kauai, and Lahaina Maui in my Navy days. We never made it down to the Big Island unfortunately.

Its good you come back for visits.

I agree Diesel trucks need to be worked. Will buy my Diesel when i return to the Main land. Researching and making plans to

visit for relocation to Rapid City South Dakota.
