Dr. Redneck... hehehhe

No I kind of thought that is what it might be. I knew you were a doctor from the "what do you do" posts and the sock looked like what my Dad had on his leg after the joint replacment..... Maybe if it holds up you should market the BHAF pre-filter.....

JR2

The 2 is susuposed to be for squared... My Dad is JR so that makes me JRJR or JR2...

sock

JR (SQUARE{d})

the sock is holding up fine after the miles mentioned. i doubt it adds much restriction. should extend the life of the moparguy filter quite a bit. nice thing about is, it's disposable. i suppose you could throw it in the washer, but it has some inherent water shedding capability, which would be washed out. i have plenty for my use for awhile. i can buy it in 25 yd rolls for about a buck a yard. it takes about 2 feet to "sock the sucker" so for about a buck, it is disposable... ... ... ... heeeey, maybe i just named it... ... . "TH' REDNECK SUCKER SOCK"..... i'll send you a pm. .

BHAF

JR**2 and Dr. Redneck,

I appreciate the info..... You guys are too cool... . I am glad to see people here have a sense of humor... ...

If you get a chance I would be interested in seeing a picture of the Mallory Mount. Did you guys also drill the big goffer hole in the cowl like the Scotty requires or just using the increased surface area (decreased pressure drop) of the larger filter? I can see how it would be benifical but I hate to take a hole saw to the truck.....

Thanks again!

Oh yeah, Which would you do first the "box" or injectors?

BHAF

haney, no need to cut on the truck. this filter doesn't pretend to get air anywhere other than the engine compartment. the surface is so big, it just cuts down on the restriction SIGNIFICANTLY!! just remove the air box-- three 10 mm rubber nuts. i put three rubber vacuum caps and put on the studs to protect the BHAF. also, put some plastic wire loom or foam pipe insulation on the A/C line which will be under the BHAF, to prevent wearing a hole in the line. i used foam plumbing pipe insulation. attach the Bhaf, slam the lid , and :D. if you want to hear the turbo more, take the silencer ring out of the neck of the turbo while you're at it.

boxes vs. injectors..... i'm no expert here, haven't done either. i most like will do the box first when i do something. a raptor or EZ or pe comp are so easy to put in, and add significant hp and torque... ... injectors aren't that bad, but significantly more work and chances for installation problems. (mnsho) [MY NOT SO HUMBLE OPINION] :D :D :D

BHAF

Redneckdr,

So what your saying is the only place the BHAF attaches is to the stock elbow hose and then lays over in the corner? Cool. Does it move around in there any? I guess the Mallory Mount is a cradle that the filter may set in? I am going to go tomorrow and get me a filter and then I will see what I can do. I may have to see how much room I have and make my own mount with a heat shield like the Jannetty unit.....

Is the Fleetguard AH19037 and the NAPA 2790 the same filter?

I was leaning towards getting the EZ or Comp first after the guages, BHAF and Exhaust.....

Man, I wish my gauges would come... .....

Thanks,,,, :)

Short.

You are going to have to buy a clutch with an injector and box combo because the stock clutch cannot hold alot of torque at low RPM (-2,100RPM)

My truck has DD1's PE COMP, South Bend Clutch MU 0090 Con OFE, gauges, BHAF, and a custom exhaust.

Besides the exhaust being way loud, (I like it :D ) I think I have the perfect towing/hotrodding setup. Asking around here at the TDR I am rumored to be at 375RWHP,, I can tell you right now, that with my 2wd 3500 Quad Cab truck, with a fiberglass camper, subwoofers,, and a bunch of junk in the bed (including a rubber bed mat, and a gooseneck hitch rated for 30,000Lbs) it is more than enough to beat a Chevy Duramax with the Allison transmission.

I have raced againt my Dad's truck, a 2001 Chevy Duramax/Allison 2wd, QC Long bed 3500. Beat him bad,, actually,, beat him bad three times. The only gear we stay level in is right when we take off,, He power brakes his truck, and I launch at ~1,900-~2,100RPM and roll into WOT,, but when I shift to 3rd, I absolutely dust him,, at the end of 3rd gear he is about level with my rear bumper, and the WOT 3rd-4th shift I leave him about 3-4 car lengths behind, at 70MPH, I let off the pedal,, 'cause the speed limit was 45MPH.

The Second D-Max/Allison I raced was a 4wd Short bed, and I could have sworn it was a QC (not 4-door) I took off at idle in 2nd gear, and when I heard him go WOT, I went WOT, we stayed together for my entire 2nd gear, and when I shifted to 3rd, I just started whoopin' his rear,, when I did my WOT 3rd-4th shift I just left him about 3 car lengths behind, and when I went to 5th gear, he was getting smaller and smaller in my rear view mirror,, at this point I jumped on my brakes to slow down for a redlight that was in a 35MPH zone, and I was doing about 75-80MPH,, lets say,, I had to stop fast, and I thouroughly whooped his a... He drove away with his tailpipe between his axles... :D

Both of these races I was seeing EGT in the 1400-1500* area,, also WOT at 80-90MPH I get 1450* EGT,, If I BARELY back off the throttle I get about 200-300* less EGT,, , but that's no fun, LOL

I can also tow with this setup, all I have to do is turn my PE COMP off and the EGT will be very safe, even under sustained WOT. With my COMP box off and my wastegate disabled (via boost elbow) EGT doesn't go above 1000*, even in 100*F temps. I see about 20Lbs of boost WOT towing with PE COMP off.

Here's my two pennies worth of thoughts,, and a whole bunch of fun experiances :D LOL

haney, the filter simply fits directly in the airbox end of the hose. the hose is stiff enough, i doubt the filter moves around much. it looks like the hood wouldn't close, but it will. yes, the NAPA 2790 and WIX 42790 are the same filter, just cross referenced. if you are leaning toward the PE boxes, i think i'd go ahead and get the comp. not much more deniro, 5 levels of power, adjustable and controllable from the cab, and just like the EZ, if you leave the pump wire unhooked. :D

OK, JMO here, but I'll throw it out for consideration.

Sounds like you're going to spend quite a few dollars upgrading your truck. I say spend about another $125 to 150 protecting your investment by upgrading the oil filtration - get a bypass filter. The bypass filter provides better engine protection with either regular or synthetic oil. Then, do an oil analysis every once in awhile. How often depends on what oil change intervals you stick with (another debate in itself). This will alert you to any air filtration issues, leaking injectors, and numerous other potential problems, some of which could be caused if there is an unseen or unexpected problem with some of the mods you are planning.

If you're willing to trust the oil analysis and extend your drain intervals (again, this does not require use of synthetics if you don't like them), this is one mod that can pay for itself in 6 months to 2 years, depending on how many miles you drive per year. If you do run synthetics, payback occurs very quickly.

I'm going to be installing an Oilguard as soon as the weather warms up.

I think if you look at this thread you will find a pic of the mallory mount. It basically installs in the three studs that held the air box in. It has a heat shield built in and has a huge tie wrap to hold the filter in place. I installed it in about 10 minutes and it has worked good.

It looks very similar to the JRE mount, my only concern with the JRE mount was that it was made for the K&N RE0880 and I did not know if the BHAF would in it.

If your NAPA store does not have or wants too much (over $35) for the BHAF, try getting if from a cummins shop. I got mine from Cummins with the fleetguard part #. They had to order it and it took a while but was way cheaper than what NAPA wanted for it. Now Cummins in Anchorage stocks them and the parts manager is running one in his truck...

NAPA 2790

haney, i remember paying $40 and some change for my NAPA 2790. may want to check with cummins if one is close, for the AH19037..... th' big sucker. .

Hey Haney, i saw your list of toys at the bottom of your post and was going to tell you that it is against the law for anyone to own 3 cuda's and now you have to give me one so i won't turn you in to the Mopar police. :D :D :D :D :D

EZ or Injectors

I didn't read this anywhere in this post so I would suggest getting the EZ or even the COMP before the injectors because they include a boost module. I started with the BD II's and my EGT's ran a little hot because I was limited to the factory boost level of 20psi.

I took a car hauler from Des Moines to Atlanta and back this weekend with my setup and it just hauled. EGT's never went about 1000 on level one of my COMP (equal to EZ) and I could top any hill at over 75MPH+. Great towing set-up. I averaged 18. 7 MPG towing 5900lbs. Most here tow heavier, but I do tow fast.

Eric

That is a good point dieselboy25!! I was leaning toward the "box" first and I think your point about the boost just clinched it. I am also now leaning toward the Comp instead of the EZ after all of the post to this thread!!!!

YOU GUYS ARE BAD INFLUENCES!!!! :D

COMP vs. EZ

The point that sold me on the Comp is that fact that I got an extra 70 to 80 HP for another 100 bucks more. I don't think you are every going to find a better dollar to HP deal anywhere. On your list of things to upgrade, I would suggest a pusher pump to keep your fuel pressure up as per Ted J. recommendations. The upper levels of the Comp can really suck your pressure down, but man is it fast.
