Hey guys checkin in from down in Texas. As we all know there is a common dash cracking problem in these trucks (03 drw). I had a plastic cap on my 01 cummins that worked well. Downfall was that the originall peices underneath the plastic cap kept breaking, following, and thus rattiling like heck. I know Geno's was supposed to have full replacement dashes on thier website but i havent found it yet. Who has replaced (not covered) their dash and did it in their driveway?

i havent seen a lot of problems with the new dashes, they are not hard to replace. i pulled the entire dash to fix the hvac doors. it only took a couple hours to pull the dash. you will need to pull the dash as a unit as the duct work is screwed in from underneth.

Too late for you now, but I put a dash cover on my trucks from Day 1. Cheaper to replace that carpet looking cover than the dash. How about a pick-n-pull junk yard to replace your dash?

I thought about a junk yard but even at a junk yard they are a used dash and my luck it would crack on the way home from the junk yard. Im really wanthing one thats brand new.

Is that a heat related issue? I've never heard of a cracked one up near this latitude.

I think it's more of a color issue.

The chemical make-ep for the differnet color dashes has an affect on the cracking issue.

90% of the dashes I've seen crack are taupe/tan. I've had 3, 3rd gens and my dad's had 2, 3rd gens (all black) and not a crack on any of them.

The taupe ones I see crumble like Saltines.

Interesting i never considered colors. I know on my old 2nd gen, it was gray and the thing was trash. . . . . . . It couldnt even collect dust

My 96 2500 4wd is still fine Grey if it makes any difference, purchased in Ok. when new but came to northern In. right away. My 04 I bought in Austin in 07it too originally was purchased in Ok. and I brought it back to In. The dash was ok in Tx. , But cracked here asI understand in the usual spot, just left of center
