Thank you JR2 for introducing me to the TDR forum... I'm the guy you met at Tampa Power. And thanks to all that post quality answers and solutions, I have learned soooooo much the past few days reading.

I just awoke a sleeping giant with the tst #6 plate and 3k springs... :D Un beleivable!!!

As a preventative maitenance I took my truck down to the local transmission shop to have it serviced.

They found small aluminum and brass chips all in my trans oil pan - - Suggested that I do a complete rebuild at the tune of $1500 + tax.

I expressed concern about the stock transmission handling the new found power of my cummins. His solution was to add a shift kit along with Borg/warner disks and other high quality replacement parts.

I'm only pulling a small boat (about 2000 lbs) but about 30-40k miles per year.

Any suggestions about this...

btw I have a transmission temp guage already installed.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the TDR.

As far as the transmission,I wouldn't be too concerned with the metal in the pan,it is normal to see some,as long as it is not excessive,a second opinion would be in order to put your mind at rest. Makes sure they adjust the bands when they service it.

As far as the rest of the transmission holding up,or if you do need a rebuild, give Bill K at www.dieseltrans.com a call and discuss it with him. He is very helpful. Also do a search for other trans vendors such as ATS,BD,DTT etc. All have good products which will help your transmission survive your new found power.

You could probably get by with the stock trans for a while, just keep your foot out of it when it's locked up,as the TCC will be the first to slip. Turning up the pressures or a new valve body will help. A good torque convertor is the best solution.
