Hello to all !! I have been reading the site for about 2 months now and learned a lot from the members. I had originally ordered a 01 2500 with very few options and the dealer had one that came in a few days after with the SLT package and sold it to me for 500 under invoice which was less than the original order. I am very happy with the truck after 5500 mi. I only have a few questions or concerns on the truck. I have a whistling noise (sounds like a childs wax whistle) coming from upfront and a slight slapping noise from the right side engine under the hood. I will check the archives for solutions, but other than that the truck is a champ. I want to add a slight pulling mod for the camper and boat for towing. Can anyone give me any ideas as not to void the warranty?

I have a 24' TT and a 24" Cruiser.

Camper weight is approx 5500 and the boat is about 7500 with fuel and extra goodies. Sorry for the long post but I am glad to finally be talking with other cummins owners. I have already had the dealer do the first dreaded oil change(free of course) and using Rotella oil with mopar filter.

Welcome aboard!!!

You can edit that message if you want. If I had a 24 inch cruiser, I'd just load it in the back and not worry about towing. But, if it weighs 7,500 lbs. I'd probably have to have some help. Ok - we all are allowed one mis-typed statement.

Are you going to tow both at the same time?

Check out the air intake before the filter. The intake duct could be flopping around. There is a discussion concerning the proper placement of this part.

K&N Stock replacement filter is a good first addition.

If you smell that Rotella oil (changed mine yesterday) you may think about relocating that crankcase ventilation collector bottle - if you haven't already done so.

Thanks, let me try again. I have a 24 foot Sea Ray cruiser , I will not be pulling both at the same time, just one or the other. Thanks for the info on the air intake, I have not checked it yet. The oil bottle is messy and I plan to relocate it after the wedding on the 30th- then a week in Jackson hole WY. Edited: 9/19

There is likely not much you can do to add power that will not void the warranty. As you can see from this site, most of us choose to increase the power. There are several products that are "stealthy" but it appears none are a sure thing.

I have had good luck removing the plastic duct from the fender to the air cleaner housing and running a Fleetguard filter. You can do a search for the K&N debate, I had bad luck with mine.

Here are some pics of the blowby bottle mod:

Thanks for the pic CHAW. I cant wait to do this so my engine will stay clean. What type of adapter for the stock hose to 3/4 hose? Home Depot carries this hose, do they also have the barbed adapter?

Yes, all parts were purchased at Home Depot for around $12. 00.

1- 3/4" x 3/4" barb adapter
2- Stainless Hose Clamps
10'- Package of 3/4" clear braided hose
Package of black tie wraps

Edit: I just read Joe's response and what he did makes for a much cleaner installation. I chose the outside routing so I could monitor any buildup of fluid inside the hose, and have no low spots to the rear. FYI

Inline6,

I did a similar thing with the blowby tube. The difference is that I ran the long tube INSIDE the frame rail. That way it's completely out of the way. The other thing that is different is that I took the old tube completely off the block connection so only one clamp is needed and no tie wraps. The long hose method really works well. No mess and no smell.

Yes my wedding. No Ram trip though, we are flying to WY on Delta, the Ram trip will be the following weekend to MI for the 2nd reception. I will need the GVWR to bring all the gifts back! It will be a short 1300 mi round trip to MI. I'll see about the pics, mama will have to approve of course!

I'm also a new member and finally got to post a message. Have been reading all of the posts and have got alot of information. Ordered my first diesel 8/28/00 and got a call today saying it has arrived. Can't hardly wait to pick it up. I'm sure I'll have alot of questions.

Crackerjake, when you go to pick up the truck , do a walkaround and spotcheck the paint and etc, have the salesman make notes of everything just in case a problem arrises. I had one paint run on the tailgate lip and a couple of chips on rocker. Dealer made note of this and also that the floor mats were missing. Needless to say I got the floor mats before I left . Just some small advise. Congrats on purchasing the rig.

Inline, did the walk around and everything looked great. I got there about 1/2 early so I could inspect without being bothered. By the way got 3500 white dually, 410, and loaded inside. Going Saturday getting Line-X liner put on bed. Tuesday getting 5th wheel hitch installed. Looking forward to first pull in about two weeks.
