OK I picked up a new set of Kool Vue Power Trailer Tow Mirrors, Heated, Remote etc. from Car Parts.com. Here is a video that convinced me.

My originals had went bad and been replaced with normal power heated mirrors, not flip up towing. But the heating unit had failed. So i picked these up. OK...install easy. Operation not so much. Before I had no problems with range of movement , but I had several things go wrong.

1. They don't move in towards the body as much as I would like..but the worse is
2. All of a sudden my remote control stock doesn't operate the passenger one correctly.

To their credit Car Parts sent me another..which I installed yesterday. Unfortunately things didn't get better. I blew a fuse.

As an example when I want the right mirror to come in...it goes out....and it won't come back.

I was thinking maybe the remote control stock was defective, so I went over to my local wrecking yard that specializes in Dodge Trucks and the guys their that I trust said...hey I have one, but that never goes bad. Try it, I won't charge you if t doesn't work...so I did and he was right...that wasn't the issue

OK....I wish Now I hadn't thrown out my old mirror as i would plug it in and see if it moves correctly, thus meaning the mirrors are the issue.

Thoughts....

I have a set of Kool Vue electric, heated flip-up tow mirrors on my truck - been using them for 3 years and for 75,000 miles with no problems.
I am wondering if with the high mileage on your truck that you may be having wiring issues, especially since the wires have been flexed for many years and mileage. I attached a wiring diagram to help you troubleshoot if you are electrically inclined.

Also, I still have my old set of factory electric and heated mirrors. I see that you are located just across the river, so if you want to make a trip to my place to test your circuit with my old mirror, sent me a PM.

Two possibilities come to mind from my experience installing the Kool-Vue's. If you didn't route the wires at the mirror properly you can easily pinch the wires and cause problems. Also, one of the driver's mirror studs on my 2002 had to be shortened (cut flush with the nut) so the door panel would lay flat and the mirror switch wires would not short out. Did you get the support/stabilization brackets to minimize vibration?

Yes I did....and I saw the video where originally one of the studs was to long...but this one had been modified. I have checked the wires at the door connections and they appear to be OK....I'm thinking its the mirror.

You likely pinched/cut the wire(s) when you tightened down the mirror.......been there, done it...blew the fuse..... Here is a pic someone on here posted back in the day so you don't pinch the wires.

Well they move...so no fuse blown..they just don't move Correctly....they have a mind of their own and the passenger won't hold a setting. Have a new (different mfg) pair coming from Genos on Tuesday..
