I don't know about $750 to go from 7 to 5 on the filtration.

One thing though is those tank vents, my truck is street driven and almost never off road yet look how ugly looking it gets around those vents:

You wouldn't think it would get that dirty there with that kind of use.

I would be interested to know more about the fliter they offer for the vent. I added a VW push-on fuel filter to each vent plus extended the hose.

$750 is list. Do we even know what all that includes yet? Many dealers give a discount if you ask for it and some even give deep discounts (like 10% above cost) for clubs and such. So it pays to shop around.

As for 7 to 5 mic, it is more than that since you will be getting a separate water separator and revised lift pump. Clearly the stock system works to a point, but due to its small size and using one element to do two jobs, it is limited in what it can do in the case of a bad batch of fuel.

Plus the kit is designed as a system, so that all the parts work together, under all conditions, which should put it a far cry above just adding filters a stock fuel system. I also like the heater, especially as the stupid politicians force more and more bio content down our throats.

As for the fuel tank vents, it will be interesting to see what gadget they come out with. I simply capped the tank ports and use a vented fuel cap.

Thats true, hadn't looked at it that way and remineded me of this post where the fella spent 6000 in repairs going cross country filling at unknown stations.

Thats a great idea too, where did you find a vented cap to fit our filler neck? Wonder if it would leak in a rollover or if it has a check valve of some sort.

Iirc I looked for a vented cap online and did not find one that was certain to fit, so I bought a replacement cap and took it apart.

I wrote the following in Fireman’s thread: https://www.turbodieselregister.com...ssions/125393-check-your-fuel-tank-today.html

..... I disassembled the cap (which is a PITA) and removed only the small spring which allows some vacuum to build in the tank for the gasoline emission control system. With this spring removed, air can enter and exit the tank freely. I taped a cup of water to the cap and turned it over to see if, without the spring, the little poppet would prevent fuel leaking out. It did, so I am satisfied the rollover protection is still there.

I have inspected the inside of the cap after a few thousand miles for any signs of dirt or moisture and have found none, it was spotless. If there were any signs I was going to put a small piece of air cleaner foam inside the cap to act as a filter. I see no need for this at this time. ... ... ...

Someone else in that thread pointed out that the main fill port into the tank has a ROV so fuel should not even get to the cap in the event of a rollover.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a question regarding the vents on top of the tank. Posted this question in the original thread by Fireman, but guess it was so long it wasn't read. On my truck (05) the front vent has a hose about 6" long on it. The rear vent has no hose and thought I would install hoses and filters as some have done. However, the nipple in the rear is located in a slot or groove and there is not room to attach a hose on the nipple. There is just no clearance between the bottom of the nipple and the top of the tank. Appears as though the nipple is supposed to be aligned in the slot or groove, but it is about a quarter turn off creating the clearance problem. The front nipple is aligned with the slot and there is room for the hose to be attached. After all this, can the nipple be moved so it aligns with the slot or groove so I can attach a hose to it? If so how would it be moved, it is pretty tight there on top of the tank? Thanks for any responses.

Guess I should have said the rear nipple is supposed th be aligned with the slot or groove, but it is not. It is about a quarter turn off.

I'm interested to know how the new lift pump differs from the stock pump, and what, exactly, is included in the kit. Has anyone bought/installed one yet?

Filters

When we saw USLD on the way in, we wanted a way to protect the engines and the word was out that maybe the stock filters wouldn't do the job... .

We installed the following on all our trucks and those of our friends... .

The primary filter is a 10 micron filter with a water drain and the secondary filter is a 2 micron... we used Donaldson for no other reason that I have an account with the guys down the street and got a good value on them...

You can see from the one picture that this is a billet aluminum housing that's been CNC'd to accept the filters... as you can see with the second photo we've installed them on the frame rail, each of our trucks is a different mount... but we've come off the assembly with 3/8" hose...

We now change these filters once a year, regardless of mileage. . some of our trucks see 60-70K a year and others see 25K a year. . but in the fall when we check the cooling systems we change the filters...

We've not had to worry about the stock factory filter, but I'm guessing that sometime in the future we'll change them out of safety sake only...

We've checked the fuel pressure every few months for the first year, to see what was going on with that... and on the highest mileage truck we really never saw a drop so all else remains the same... we have no HP enhancements on the trucks except for 1 (40 HP)... . all our trucks have been changed over to the in-tank pump... with no problems... . most of our trucks also run extra fuel tanks...

This is how we did it...

Nice setup.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the reason you made your own heads rather than buy an off the shelf dual filter head? What is the coldest temps your trucks have seen with that setup? How often do you drain the water separator?

Dodge to supply 5 uM

So to bring the thread back on topic ... .

The TSB says that Several parts will be added to this bulletin when they are available... These parts include a 5 micron fuel filter for 5. 9 engines.

So for normal duty is there any benefit with an aftermarket system when dodge will be delivering a 5 mic filter plus a water stripping kit (assuming price is comparable)?

Also does anyone know what they changed with the lift pump?

Local dealership quoted $750 for the Fuel Filtration kit here as well, though no one in town (Houston) has it, nearest one is Dallas.

Good, I see they revised this to include the 03's

I was wondering when I first saw this why not the 03's also cause as far as I know the fuel systems are the same as the 04's.

I will keep an eye on where this goes, I have been through 3 set of injectors in 106,000 Miles now at 114,000 Miles, and keeping my fingers crossed.

I am using the 7 micron filters from Genos, before my warranty expired I had the dealership do all maintanence just so they had the records on file to enforce the warrany.

Not sure what filter the dealer was putting in though.
