Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) new noise to figure out...

just rebuilt the transmission for the second time. replaced the counter shaft, input shaft(1 3/8s) and everything related to third gear. got it all back in the truck and got to driving it again.



this is what is goin on. if you are in fourth and you bring the truck under a load starting from 1200 rpms right about 1400-1700 there is this shutter that goes thru the whole truck. its not any different feeling up thru the shifter as it is in your feet. its almost like something is balancing its self out.



the only thing that is not as it should be is that a bolt that holds the front driveline universal retainer clip to the yoke. but why would it only do it in certain gears. would that cause that big of a balance issue?



now i hope there is no way that my turbo could cause this is there? cause right when the turbo catches the fuel is when it does it. turbo shaft cant make that much noise can it? but it doesnt do it if you load it in any other gear.



it will ever so slightly do it in 3rd gear as well, but no others.



any ideas?

was there a bunch of loose roller bearings with rounded ends that go inbetween(?) the inputshaft and third gear could you be missing these all or a few and i'd ck endplay of the input shaft, I have also tried a shift collar out back wards on accident, and it didn't do right. fourth gear problems should be in this area because it feeds strait through and doesn't send power through the counter shaft, Unless the counter shaft to main rack backlash between the gear face is excessive and the rack can just flop about due to engine vibration when not having power being sent through it. just my two cents, good luck.

there is a small flat race(?) bearing that is in there and its in there. i felt wierd about it when i put it in there though. can you put it in backwards and cause this problem? all the bearings in the transmission were swapped out for new this go round.



the transmission was shimmed and was good. i am lost on this one.

how much play is spose to be, if any, in the shaft on the turbo? i can grab mine and get about 1/16" of movement out of it. virtualy no in and out, but a little side to side. shouldnt that be pretty solid?
