New Oil Black Already???

I too have the Frantz oil filter set up. It will keep the oil "clearer" for about an extra 100 miles then it too gets just a black as without it. Oh well, the oil sample still comes back good. I was hoping that my oil would look like Gary's.

I too have the Frantz oil filter set up. It will keep the oil "clearer" for about an extra 100 miles then it too gets just a black as without it. Oh well, the oil sample still comes back good. I was hoping that my oil would look like Gary's.

After about 15,000 miles on the oil, as pictured above, the oil gets steadily darker, until it gets difficult to read the marking on the stick - other than the first few hundred miles after a TP cartridge change. But then, that run was just a test, and normal complete oil changes are done at considerably lower miles.



I guess the greatest remaining consolation at that point, is that at least the soot particles darkening the oil are extremely SMALL ones that do little wear on engine parts, as oppose to non-bypassed engines where particle sizes are likely to be larger.



Hard to understand why newer engines, in the name of emissions and "environment" should run so much dirtier. I'm afraid my own engine too, will be running dirtier after the new injectors - but that was not done with environment particularly in mind - no offense intended to any resident environmentalists...

It is normal for the oil to get black shortly after oil change on the 2004. 5 & 2005 Dodge pickup trucks. This is not a problem for the engine.
