At 27,000 miles, I have a cut on the sidwall on a rear tire. I plan on installing the spare which has never been on the ground and using the cut tire for a spare. These are the facotry BFG Rugged Trails. The spare has a tread depth of 15/32" and the tires on the ground are at 10/32". Is there any problem doing this on the rear axle with the traction lock (or whatever they call it) rear axle? Would it be better to do this on the front or would the slight difference in diameter affect steering?
As an aside, I've only rotated these tires once. The wear is very even front to back. No cupping on the front. Same wear front and back. The tread on all four tires is 1/32" deeper in the centers which would leave me to think I might should run just a bit more pressure in the tires but the ride is fine with the pressure I'm running so I won't change. Looks like these tires are going to wear pretty good but I'll be ready for new tires by next winter, I'll bet. BTW, I don't tow with this truck. Probably why the tires are wearing well.
