GM discusses purchase of Chrysler

Perfect hard boiled eggs

I never said it was the Governments responsibility-Like Rusty & Ryan I believe it the operators.

I sure hope the guy de-icing the plane on my next trip doesnt just take his safety into account.

I am done here-

you should be far enough back ...

to keep YOURSELF safe ...

you should be far enough back to avoid problems ...

if you couldn't avoid the snow you were too close to avoid an accident ...

what would have happened if the van had to make an emergency stop / move

you had time to count 10 seconds and still let the snow hit your grill?

yeah it was all the vans fault ...

by your way of thinking if you slide off an icy road it's the states fault because they didn't get all the snow off ... not yours for not slowing down

So the people on 9/11 were responsible for their own deaths because they should've worked in a different building right?

Lets look at another senerio, the truck is on a 3 lane highway but is governed to 65 mph, of course I drive 73 mph so as I close the distance in the lane next to this guy something flies off his roof and comes through my windshield and it's my fault??? I don't think so, Just like the rocks that have fallen off a truck and come through my windshield, I wasn't too close he just didn't clean up the spillage on his truck.

I don't know what the answer is because I sure as heck wouldn't climb on top of a snowy trailer but it definantely wouldn't be my fault for something falling off his truck.

My brother drive a truck, I have a bunch of friends that drive trucks and I am always curtious to truck drivers and help them when I can, infact I pulled one out the other day after he got stuck. I know what truckers deal with and I agree, we don't need anymore stupid laws that don't get enforced to make their way of life harder but we also need to look out for the other guys also.

Every accident is avoidable!

Was driving to day, and guess what? I was hit by a chunk of ice and slushthat came from- you guessed it-UNDERNEATH a truck!!!

Must have weighed 150 pounds, smashed my grill right out, could have been my windshield. We need to ammend that law to state that build up while driving is a no- no also.

All vehicles must stop every 500 feet, and declare their vehicle safe, and call it it in, and give their lcoation.

Better yet, we should high more cops to watch for this, yea yea thats it grow guvmint so we can be safer.

Bottom line, its a BS law.

I personally haven't had any problems with blowing snow or sheets of snow coming off of trucks, it's always been the SUVs and vans that create the situation. I think the law is aimed primarily at those people.

I was stationed in Gemany in the 90's, europe has this same law and it is enforced (couple of co-workers got tickets from the Polizei). I'm not sure how they did it for the truckers though, I'd see trucks going down the autobahn with lights and windows clear but snow on the roofs.

Here is an idea for one of you enterprising machinist here on TDR. Why not just invent some kind of "knife blades" that mount across the back-top of the truck that cut the ice into smaller pieces as they slide off the truck. Kind of like the ones they put on a steel roof of a building. It might help some, but then it would not help when the wind picks up the front of the sheet and flips it up into the air.

If it sells, Just remember where you got the idea :)

my logic is that you should be responsible for your own safety ...

YES!! ... . AND ... that includes all drivers and anything that can fall or come flying off of a vehicle be car, SUV, motorcycle or tractor trailer!

What if the victim is another trucker? What if the other trucker is a tanker hauling chemicals? ... .

Well, acording to the (il)logic posted here it would be the driver of the chemical trucks fault ... . afterall, if he got hit and caused an accident it is his fault because HE was following too close... too bad if innocent folks got killed and regardless of what fell from an improperly secured load!

once again ... if a trucker is hauling 80k lbs of chemicals close enough to have ice hit him than he is too close to the first truck for a safe stop in an emergency ...

Yep, He was following TOO CLOSE regardeless of the consequences. Too bad there was no PERSONAL RESONSIBILITY on the part of the driver the driver that may have avoided any incedent.

Actually, I believe it is the responsibility of each driver to ensure that his/her vehicle is safe before entering the roadway. This is no different than the responsibility of a trucker to make sure his/her load is secured.

You would think so!! But nooooo! just like the liberal mentality of the non responsible idiots!!! It is always someone ELSE"S fault!!

The news just has another one on. This time they showed the guys face on the news as he layed in the hospital bed, he took a sheet through the windshild, messed him up reall good. "they are looking for the truck".
