What is a fair price for a new paint job on a '97 extended cab long bed? Same Dodge black that is on there, very minor body work. Don't need car show quality, but wanted better than Earl Scheib. Tops of my fenders, top edge of the cab, and top of the bed rails look terrible.

There is absolutely no telling how much one can spend on a paint job. All depends on level of effort, amount of body work and quality of paint. Cheapest may be $500. Most expensive may be upward of $5,000. For the $500 paint job you may have to take it south of the border.

I recently inquired at a paint shop about doing mine completely. I am seriously considering a color change for next year and to do mine, with a rotisserie used to do the bottom, the price was out near 7k. While I did not fall over at the price I was a tad shocked as mine does not have alot of work to repair. I have not ruled it out yet..... Andy

The days of a good cheap paint job are gone. The price of paint alone is crazy. If it's done at a body shop, the EPA has put so many regulations and restrictions on them that their operating expenses have sky-rocketed as well. Any time you make a color change it's going to be expensive because of all the work involved. A color change means the bed has to be pulled along with most of the interior pieces, body panels, bumpers, etc.

I wanted to change my charcoal 95 reg cab to a custom mix blue in my head but I don't see it happening anytime soon. I'm going to be calling a shop this weekend about 45 miles away from where I live to see how much it'd be for them to repaint and fix a dent the previous owner put in my right rear fender. Hopefully it's not to outrageous.

To have my hood, roof, left fender, left door, left A-frame(above door and back window) and tail gate painted in enamel almost $1000. I'll get the right door and fender painted next year.

My roof was the worse with paint flaking off in spots but I wanted it taken care of before it started to rust.

I took it to this body shop because someone ran in to my truck while parked at my business and damaged the right back of bed pretty good so my insurance replaced whole side of right bed. I liked the paint job they did so I brought it back to have the other parts painted.

Hammer, Are you going to paint it Emerald Green :-laf Actually I think you should just trade it for a Dakota

Hammer - that better be one heack of a heavyas roto unit to put big red on and keep it from tipping over. Why are you looking at paint? Your truck always looks so sweet when I see you at the brawls/fling.

Sadly, I've actually seen it. The little Dakota did NOT look happy, nor did it look very safe.

OUCH! I saw it several times and thought it was really cool looking:confused: and the Cummins looked mighty snug and comfy in that little engine bay. It's a real nice job that was performed shoehorning it into that tiny bay. ;)

I too want to do this as there is cancer eating parts of my truck and I have my fair share of dents, scratches and the like. None of the local body shops what to have anything to do with it. If its not insurance work, they dont want it. go figure  Kinda ticked me off when I asked the body shop just down the road from me about doing a full paint and he said no. I have brough not only all my past body work to him, but sent alot of people his way... only to have him tell me no because it wasnt an insurance claim. . WTH? Anyway, I think when I find someone I am going to do all the work of yanking all stuff off that I can, lights, moldings, accessories, interior, anything I can unbolt that doesnt get paint. That is a HUGE part of the cost in a full body paint. I would love to paint it myself but I dont have the tools but more importantly I dont have the patence.

I want to paint mine a very deep black metalic. It actually looks a lot like the Black Pearl coat on the Chargers and 300Cs. Its a very deeeeep pearl over black, looks killer. Someday, I hope. If it comes to that though, its getting a complete rebuild, bead blasted Frame and axle. It will be a full restoration project if I go to the trouble of a repaint. It will look like it rolled off the assembly line... I hope some day.

That or I'll just buy a 3rd gen... . :-laf

I dont think he was talking about my Dakota.

Were you ?

Rob

No no. I was talking about seeing a Dakota pulling a 5er, about a 30 footer even.

Heck a Cummins 6BT in one sounds like an awesome ride! I'd love to see pics of that.

1995 3500 ext. cab. Way bad Dodge paint on cab top, hood, dually fenders. Paint peeling on tailgate and bed. Midnight blue. Desert of Utah, very hot, baking sun. Got an estimate from a VERY high quality paint and body shop. BTW Minor body work required. No replacement running boards or bumpers, grill etc. Estimate was $6200. 00. I asked about changing to a lighter color for less heat in summer. Still $6200. 00. It seems that even if painted the original color they would still do the door jambs, inside rocker panels etc. An added plus; they called me when they took the bed off so I could replace the bloody fuel sender. Lol. It's taking a month 'cause they specialize in collision work and are painting mine on the side. I've seen the work they do and it is impeccable! When I pick it up at the end of August it will be a light gold metallic. It might be more than $6200. 00 because it used to belong to a welder. Anything owned by a welder is like having a pregnant wife. You can't unscrew anything! They had to cut and grind to get the bed off! Anyway, that's a long answer to a short question. Sorry. I MISS MY DUALLY, TIRED OF DRIVING WIFE'S GEO METRO. :{

( No offence to welders, without them half my equipment wouldn't be working. )
