how often do you think you should lube

new 2024 at great price or 2025

I have not torn apart one of the 4th gen motors yet, but on the old 12v and 24v, the longer studs go along the exhaust manifold side of the head. I am sure someone whit more knowledge will chime in, but I would guess that is where they go on the newer motors as well.

Rkressg, Thanks for responding! I have a hard time finding an answer to this question.
All the 26 stock head bolts that I removed are all the same length. Making the location irrelevant.
Why is it relevant with studs? Thx

The head was machined differently, the studs on the left are exposed, outside the valve cover, flush with the top of the head and ended up being about 1/2" longer. The studs in the middle area of the head (under the valve cover) were a shorter, because the area of contact was lower in the head (closer to the top of the block).
I vaguely remember the head bolts all being the same length when they came out, but that was so many years ago, I can't remember, and that was a different engine then the 6.7L.

I got you and I get that, but this image from my truck shows the long (exhaust) stud next to a normal length stud. What I end up with is more thread past the nut. Now, I cannot get a socket on there if I needed to as it is crowded against the rocker box. I appreciate your help, but why are they not all the same length? Thx

I don’t recall the reason, but do believe those pockets along the exhaust row are deeper and the stud should be able to be threaded into the hole more. I don’t recall that much of a protrusion difference on my 05 with studs.

They probably sent you the wrong kit. 12/24v kits have different lengths.

5.9/6.7 have 6 longer studs for the exposed studs along the exhaust manifold.
