My friend installed a 40 hp plate from bullydog last night and has complained that he recieved no noticable power increase with the plate itself. He said that the afc starwheel adjustment made more of a difference than the new plate. I was just wondering if these 2 adjustments have to be done together to see rersults or there is something he should check out on his truck for possible problems? I don't if it matters alot, but in the kit was a 90 degree brass fitting that went into the wastegate. He didn't put the fitting on for reason I don't know. What was the purpose of that fitting and will it make any difference to the performance of his truck? Thanks for your help.

I'd make sure your friend followed the directions completely. Like moving the AFC housing forward ect.

I'm not sure why he didn't install the turbo boost contol barb. This will let boost bulid from about 18 lbs stock,(depending on year truck) to approx 30 lbs boost, before the wastegate opens. This will make the added fuel burn clean.

He should have a 'decent' power gain from a 40 HP plate. But not a neck snapping power increase you would get from a 100HP plate. #ad

If the new plate is installed slid rearwards from the stock position he may not see much power gain also. Have him try slideing it forward little by little and he will feel a difference.

NeedMoPower,

If he is not getting full throttle the plate won't make any difference. Have to check that. I had that problem when the screws that attach the throttle lever to the lever on the side of the pump at the rear were loose. There are two of them with 8mm heads.

They just put the fitting in there for a paperweight to keep the instructions from blowing away while he's not reading them #ad
Here's your friend's sign #ad

Seriously, though, more fuel + more air = more power. Your friend left out the "air" half of the equation. All the plate by itself will do is dump more fuel in. You have to have the boost fitting to add the more air to burn the more fuel to get the more power.

The AFC allows more fuel to be added when more air is added. If more fuel is added without more air, all you get is more smoke. Your friend is not getting any more fuel into the motor than before, because he still has the same amount of boost. The elbow allows more air to enter the motor (by "adjusting" the wastegate), then more fuel can be added, then you get more power. The elbow and the plate work together, hence they must both be installed.

Thanks for all the responses guys... . ya'll really cleared up the problem. I personally haven't looked at his truck so I really don't know what he's talking about. I told him to put the boost fiting on, but he was complaing that the old fitting won't come out. Is there some trick I should tell him about or is my friend just a dumba$$. #ad
Thanks for all the help once again.

Just put my TST #8 plate in, it really is nice!! I moved it a little forward of stock position. I did put the turbo boost fitting on, boost is even higher now than before when cruising. On hard pull the egt goes to 1350 deg F. The truck now gets up to 95 very fast! 95 is where it governs out.
Tell your friend to do it right, it should work.
I also put all new bolts in AFC cover, 10mm hex heads, they worked fine, now they are all the same.
