I heard recently about the new conversion for the fuel filter for the 24 valves. Can I get some info on this from you guys? I heard that it is moved between the fender and the master cylinder and also has a glass bowl under neath to look at. For around $125 I can get one. Is that cheap or can I get it somewhere else.

Thanks. . 3dracer

Avoid the Prime-Loc on any 24-valve engine. The fuel system is weak to begin with, and adding more length to the fuel lines is not good. Do a search on "24-valve Prime-Loc," and you'll see what I am talking about. I am certain the system caused premature injection pump failure on some trucks. The stock filter is easy enough to change. :D

Got to agree with Evan on this...

The real advantage to the Prime-Loc system is to move the filter on the 12V's, as it is a RPITA to do a filter change.

Not only is the fuel filter easy to work on with the 24V, there is a major disadvantage to making the fuel pump work even harder by lengthening the fuel lines... . Just wouldn't do it IMHO... . ;)

I concur with Evan... in fact, I have documentation that a significant pressure loss was caused by the Prime-Loc system, imposing a hardship on my already weak OE lift pump which could have caused premature failure of my VP44 injection pump if not caught in time. Removal of my Prime-Loc resulted in a minimum 5 psi (across the board) increase in pressure... this was with the specified Fleetguard fuel filter (new). Without going into all the particulars, before I removed the Prime-Loc system I saw a vacuum at the VP44 injection pump at light to light moderate throttle whereas, after the removal of the Prime-Loc system I saw positive flow pressure.

Keep in mind I'm not bashing the Prime-Loc fuel filter relocation system per se, just this system in conjunction with the OE fuel delivery system of the 24v engines.

Also noteworthy, I noticed Geno's Garage dropped the 24v Prime-Loc kit from their catalog.

Schied Deisel here in Effingham told a friend of mine that it would be able to make the lift pump more reliable. I don't really know why. I am going to find out today. That friend of mine is going to Dyno his truck today and I am going to ask all kinds of questions about this thing. I will keep you informed about what they say.

UPDATE!! today they told me that a pusher pump would work better. So who is telling me the truth. Also, my buddy got this truck and no one knows about it, I just knew it would run good. It dyno'd at about 800 torque and 220 horse. With 361,000 miles. Still with no rattles and good mileage.

huh?

Something doesn't sound right..... torque is way too high for the amount of horsepower.
