Somebody posted a pic awhile back. If my recolection is correct, it has two air intakes... . one at the factory location and one in the cowl like the old design. Yea you don't have to cut a hole but if you want the benefits of the Scotty than you should cut the hole.

I don't have one yet-waiting for Scott to build me an extra-trick one ..... but my good buddy Rod at Wildcat says 150F EGT drops using just the factory fender inlet... . quite a bit more if you're willing to cut the cowl hole. But I realize that's not for everyone... ... you can set it up so that you only open the cowl hole when you are gonna be pulling hard etc. -the rest of the time it's closed up.
