Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) New Pump, better Mileage, Can it Be?

I was throwing PO 66 trouble codes every so often. I finally had a new injector pump installed. I was mostly watching for improved performance but I now notice an improvement in fuel mileage. Can it be that a properly operating injector pump would be the source of better mileage?

When I replaced my first injection pump, I gained 4 mpg over the stock VP-44 and noticeable power! The stock pump was still getting the same mileage as when the truck was new. The replacement pump came from Scheids in Effingham.



When the Scheid pump failed, I replaced it with a Chrysler rebuild. I lost 2 mpg. Power is fine.
