New puppy (Siberian Husky)

Many of you here knew Nanuk and that we lost him back in May. We took our time to grieve his loss (took Samantha a long time - she cried nightly). Today we picked up our new puppy/family member. Got her from the same breeder that we got Nanuk from and have been talking with her for a while. Meet Nalia - she's just over 7 weeks old and we are having a BLAST! Good to hear the pitter patter of little puppy feet around here again.

Way to go Steve with Nalia! Remember you NEVER replace a dog . . you continue the story of a bond. I swore back when I lost my best bud I would never get another dog again. I am ready to continue I think soon.

We recently got my daughter a puppy, she has wanted a Corgi for years but I have always been a big dog kind of guy and our dogs have been big old mutts. We finally broke down and got her Corgi and WOW have we be having fun with that pup. It is a very interesting dog indeed, extremely intelligent, fearless, and brimming over with energy. I have never seen a puppy form such a close and protective bond with kids so quickly, she sort of "herds" them in a way - she'll run and get them out of bed, step in when they squabble, etc. I also would never have thought a pup with short legs could be so quick, but she just absolutely zooms around chasing stuff and playing fetch. She loves to chase the laser pointer spot (hilarious to watch - never gets old! :-laf :-laf )and she can cut and turn as fast as a cutting horse, when she storms across the room after it she is like a little freight train barrelling along



It's a good thing Corgis are small, if they were as big as German Shepherds they'd be running the planet...

You're lucky you only came home with one. Very cute! Our 2 rotties are 14 or 15 weeks old now. Quite a handful at times, but a good distraction from our loss of Sami.

So did you try to match the dog to your furniture and carpet colors to not show the shedding? Looks pretty close.

Wow, there are a few of us with new pups here. Our winter has been so mild, but it's nice when you're housetraining. (I started to wonder why we didn't try to wait until spring)

Wendy would have KILLED me had I suggested we bring home two! I would have loved to though. Some day I'll convince her to have a 2nd one around.



GS - cute pup! How's the mouthing coming along? Your lucky you found an obedience school that will take a sibe - most won't. As you now know it takes a special owner to be the alpha dog in the pack - sibes aren't like most dogs!

My brother shows, trains and breeds dogs. He has had 2 Siberians and Alaskan Malamute but specializes in Great Danes. He is going to show a Dane at the West Minister this year. Wish him luck!

That last one is really cute, Steve. I'm not much of a dog person, but my girlfriend had a Lab/ great Pyrenees mix when we started dating, and I begrudgingly came to tolerate her. Then she got a Shepard mix from the Humane society. PITA at times, but still lots of fun. We took her to IA to get an axle for my pickup the weekend after we got her, and she slept most of the way. I am keeping an eye on her today, as she got into a bunch of chocolate last night (1/2lb; NOT the first time, and it has never fazed her before). She was a little hyper this morning.



We started the housetraining and obedience training (I dont think they are much different from horses or young kids) as soon as she got home. Puppy (11mo) minds MUCH better than the Lab/ Pyrennes ever thought of. She'll chase the stream of water from the end of the hose all day long. Makes me wonder... ... might have to try a laser pointer.
