How many miles after replacing rear axle/diff assembly is it ok to tow fairly heavy (12k) fiver. Is it 500 miles like when the truck was brand new, or was that interval just for engine/trans?? Would like to hear your input and experience.

Thanks!!

I would agree with WUnderwood. The 500 miles is for the rear end gears to break in properly, not the engine/trans.

And after you do the break in miles (~500) I would change the gear fluid and ESPECIALLY check condition of fluid to make sure there are no significant metal particles (ie it was assembled correctly). When I had mine done (3. 54 > 4. 10) the rebuilder said that an early fluid change is good because you get all the coatings that come on the gears off into the fluid and the lapping in process little burrs if any.
