I always set the parking brake first, then put in in park - with my foot on the brake pedal.

I back into my parking space at work every day with the door open - parking is REAL tight, especially with a dually. Plus, when I pull into spaces at the mall, etc, I open the doors to get between the lines.

I tore up my notice when I got it in the mail today. :D

Does it still alarm if the parking brake is set and does the alarm stop when you close the door or do you have to shut the engine off... ... ... can be a real PIA for those with turbo timers/remote starts

Just hope it doesn't go the way of the emmisions recalls... ..... in Cali dmv won't finish the registration process till the recall has been done :(

Yeah it is real fun when you need to back up three more inches to reach the ball!

Ya? GLad I just visit California and hope my state doesn't follow suit

i think the reason they are doing this is because when you are supposely in park

and you are out of the truck checking your hitching part. the park posision pops out

and truck starts to roll, so the cheapest way for them is to put in a stupid alarm instead

of taking care of the problem. (transmission)

They did this cuz there isn't anything wrong with the trans. . its operator error so now you have a horn to tell you that you were just lazy and didn't get park.

The trouble comes from just tossing the lever up and calling it good.

Anyone with an auto will see that you can move the lever up to P and actually get the P indicator to light up just before the lever is really in park, trouble is people are suppose to know that park is when the lever locks away from you towards the dash and not just when the indicator shows it.

A better fix IMO would have been to sync the indicator with the lock position correctly.

I got a Idea how to stop the horn blowing?

Why not disconnect the horn I never have ever blowed the horn anyway. I don't even know what It sounds like anyway. A long time ago my dad Used my car to go to town and when he came back he was mad because the horn did not work. He said don't you ever blow your horn?I said no and he started raising heck with me about that. I think he went mad when he got behind the wheel of a car. Noone wanted to ride with him. I was ashamed of him on this matter. If my new truck horn starts blowing I will just disconnect the dam thing. That all! :D

I always use the parking brake anyhow, but this does not excuse Dodge for trying to cover a faulty shift linkage design with an alarm!!!!!!! I've had 2 3rd gens and both have had the problem. Always gotta mess with it to get in park, repeatedly mess with it. This is just bull crappa on a 40,000 dollar truck. Once again our corporate government takin care of us , ha ha ha

Pretty sorry fix for sloppy linkage/gear indicator, My 05 almost ran over me when I got out without the parking brake on, when the indicator showed park and it slipped into reverse! Ran thru a fence! Also at times indicates D or R and wont move until I move the gear shifter past the mark and back! Don'y really want another alarm/buzzzzzer!

E17 recall

The only time the alarm goes off in my rig is when the trans is in rev and the rev indicator on the column is not lit. There seems to be a no man's zone between the park and rev indicator.

warranty

So what happens when I dont take my truck in to get this done??? After I read the Recall paper I laughed, blew my nose on it and threw it away :D What will this do void the warranty I ALLREADY voided??

Oh! My Gawd RMALONE! I can't believe you even thought the "kill switch" thought! I'm with goose on this one. BTW, mine's not going back for the recall either. Somehow I misplaced that sheet and card... . Now where do you think I may have put that... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . ;)

Sorry guys, your probably right D. C. will see some posts and get "bright ideas".

I had my trans done with a DTT and they use a stiffer spring on the ball that rides through the roost comb on the valve body. This is supposedly to keep the trans in park, well within one week I broke the trans cable and stripped the flat side on the rooster comb mounting hole (I guess in my truck that spring is a little to stiff). Needless to say the stock spring went back in the transmission.

I still havent seen anything funny with the dash indicator light not matching the shift lever and I haven't seen any recall notices either. But don't worry if they send me the notice I will tow the line and tear that sucker into little tiny pieces. :D

By the way the trans cable is about 35bucks and remarkably simple to change. Has anyone ever heard of a auto transmission using an alarm like this??

Especially to help cure "opperator error", I think D. C has some issues and don't want to "pony up".

So, has anyone taken their truck in for this recall, or is anyone planning to? In general, I'm for keeping up on the recalls, but this one seems stupid. The towing comments are right on. Picture yourself trying to line up the truck with the ball in the middle of the night so you can leave for your vacation bright and early in the morning. I can see neighbors killing neighbors over this one.

Problem is if you take the truck in for any other service they might look up the vin and see the recall was not done and then just do it. I had this happen on a Dodge minivan. They never called to see if it was ok, they just did the recall fix it while it was in for other service. I assume the same could happen with our trucks.

Not Gonna Do It...

I spoke w/ my 5-Star Service Manager and decided I'm not gonna do it. My wife and I both set the parking brake when placing our '03 in park. There isn't any hesitatation, slippage or allignment problems in the gear select or the linkage.
