What's DC answer for us "Hard of Hearing" folks? Little zingers in the seats when your butt doesnt apply enough seat pressure?

If DC is listening . . SHAME ON YOU! Blame the operator? Sure, as an operator with million miles/30 years/ driven everything but a submarine or Apache, and suddenly its my fault for not removing the key? This is absurd. Who did they pay off at the NTSB to get away with this band aid?

I am quite sure the indicator says "P" for park. . not "WKP"... "Well. . kinda park".

E-brake? The biggest incline in a 75 mile radius is a curb. "Park" has worked for every vehicle in these parts for decades. Suddenly with Dodge. . the operator is at fault for their obvious engineering screw up? PULLLEEZE

As I was going in & out of the jobsite today, Getting in & out of the EX to unlock & lock the gate, I thought to myself what a load of dung this whole subject is. When its in park... it stays parked, without the e-brake. Door is open, engine is running, heat is on etc etc. No worries.

Did the engineer's tasked with a fix even think this through? Other than a runaway truck that now flashes its lites and makes noise (For those folks that arent deaf)

Recall is a safety issue, so does that mean when you go to renew your registration you cannot untill you have the recall done.

Guys you do not have to have this done and it will not void any warranty's. If your dealer tells you otherwise he is full of it. Now as far as them doing it without you wanting it done, well I would make sure when you take the truck in for service you let them know you do not want this done.

My local dealer Carson Dodge is making sure the customers know this before they touch anything as they had a few customers complain after they were told what this would do before it was programmed. In fact the service writer said they think this is a dumb fix. He also said that other dealers have fried other parts, ecm, speedo's and such after this was programmed.

Maybe someone could come up with a "USER LOCK" that us users could put on our rigs. Lock out DC and give them a taste of thier own meds!

To each his own.

I thought about this fix and the possible noise of driving with the door open and horn honking. I then asked myself when was the last time I felt it necessary to open the door when I was driving? Well my conclusion is that I never drive the vehical with the door open. With power mirrors I can always see what I'm doing when I'm backing up. I have an appointment with my dealership to get the "fix" done on the 18th.

I have to admit, I was under the impression that the recall fix caused the horn to blow/lights flash when you exited the vehicle with the motor running and truck IN PARK, ie: Back up trailer. put in park, get out to see postion etc.

and did not have it done to the 03.

Since I now have an 06 and it is "standard" I can tell you what it DOES do.

If you exit with motor running and Truck in PARK. No noise/lights. If you open door and gear shift not in PARK... ..... noise/lights. Only time I see this as an issue is when you open door while backing to see where you are.

Not as inconvient as I thought. Still does not address the real problem of moving out of park and since I learned to drive with a car with a stick putting the parking brake on is automatic

Just some info and my 2 cents

As has been brought up before, what happens when you have to check the transmission fluid? Must be in neutral with the engine running. Do you have to crawl out the window? :-laf

You can have mine for your wifes car , I don't want it.

Thanks, but my wifes T-Blazer came with an alarm buzzer and dashboard warning light that lets you know if a door is unlatched with the auto out of park.

Valid point

This could be an issue. I would think that this system would work off the interior light button switch on the door. A sheet metal screw and a piece of flat metal would allow a method of defeating the switch. Or for a less invasive method I would suggest my all time favorite, duck tape. ;)

How did our parents do it with out all the alarms and warnings. Oh I guess the car manfacturers back then didn't mickey mouse things

Do you plan on checking your fluid level while the truck is in reverse and rolling with the door open?

Have you seen a door pin switch on a Dodge Ram recently?

For some it may not be a big deal, I am kinda of anal and like to get my back tire right next to the misses flower bed at home when I back in, it gives more room for her to back out of the garage so the last couple feet I open the door and look back.

I also do this when launching the boat cuz its just right when I get the tire submerged to the rim. I could cycle the power mirror every time and would if the horn was blowing but I like the door open.

Since there seems to be some confusion as to what actually triggers the alarm, please do enlighten us. First is it motor running or key in run position? Next is it when not in park or only when in reverse or what? Where does it take the signal, from the shifter or the transmission reverse light switch or what? Last is it just drivers door or any door switch indicating a door is open? Are there any other conditions that are used to determine when the alarm is triggered, like ebrake not engaged?

I agree with most that this is a potentially irritating and bogus bandaid for a sloppy shift mechanism. No fix at all just plain old CYA. I can imagine lots of conditions where all is well yet the alarm would go off, like having frost on the side windows and popping open the door to back out of the driveway early in the morning. Last thing the neighbors want to hear is DCX's "fix" for a sloppy shifter.

Question for TDR Rammers

Fellow Rammers:

Has anyone expereinced this problem or does anyone know of anyone who has experienced this problem? I realize there have been occurances of this problem or DC would not have created the "fix", but I can't help but to wonder if this this is trying to fool-proof gear selection. I haven't played w/ my wife's truck yet, but I'm going to see if it's possible to position the gear selector between park and reverse. Also, I'm gonna ease out of park slowly to see at what point, if any, the truck goes into reverse shy of actually being in reverse. I'll do the same going from reverse to park, slowly moving the selector to see at what point reverse disengages and it finds park.

I won't have her truck until Saturday and will report results to this forum. I'm thinking of creating a survey where everyone tries this and see how many find a "problem. "

I will be thinking of choices for the survey and will post Saturday.

I can get the "P" to light up before the lever locks toward the dash if thats what you mean. My truck hasn't rolled away cuz I don't go by the indicator, neither does the wife.
