Anybody have any luck getting their truck exempted from this E17 recall? DCX customer service on the phone today said I have the right to refuse the recall but the guy said he is not a mechanic and that the dealer determines how not doing the recall would effect future warranty service!   The dealer says, of course, they have to do it unless I get an exemption from customer service.

I'm approaching the end of the 3/36 warranty and have to get the door seals and a few other things done soon. Definitely do not want this recall done! Anyone know a customer friendly dealer not too far west of Detroit?

Have had my truck in twice for service since the recall was announced. I make it clear when I bring it in that I do not want the E17 recall done as I too back up with the door open to line up the trailer. I have had no problem with not having it done.

Did you try it?

I had my truck into the dealer a couple of weeks ago for some service and they did this recal without me knowing.

The only problem is that it does not appear to be working the way they intended it to. it only works some of the time.

I live in a quiet townhouse development and frequently leave for work at 5:30am. Several times now I've had the horn go off when I start the car becuase of the shifter light flickering even though it IS in park. The first two times it happened I thought I set the alarm off, so I sat there for a couple of seconds hitting the key fob to shut it off. I eventually turned the truck off, then on again to stop it.

What a sh!ty recal. :(

Well, I don't know if model year matters, but my 04. 5 WILL sound the horn, even with the seatbelt plugged into the buckle! Tried it in a parking lot...

Started Truck, plugged in belt, opened door, let off brake - HONK HONK HONK! Heck - mine will even sound if I shift into Park and open the door too quickly afterwards (versus waiting 2-3 seconds before opening door after shifting into park!

I agree: "What a sh!ty recall" !!!

Try having airhorns and feeling like the biggest *****hole in the world when you're still half asleep, hooking up your trailer early in the morning at a campground, and you're holding your first cup of coffee. Yeah, the other campers just looooooved me, and that coffee felt sooooo good on my thigh!

Just another reason to have a 1st Gen. No lock up converter problems, no re-flashes, the transmission will let you shift anytime, etc. .

Even though I have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen, my favorite daily driver is the 1st gen. Like the old Timex watch commercial, "takes a lickin, and keeps on tickin".

I had my truck in for service the other day. He had it on the rack when I noticed that I forgot my phone and some work papers in it, he let it back down and I noticed he had the computer gizmo in the seat. I asked him what he was going to do and he showed me the recall on his work order, I had told them on a earlier visit that I didn't want the recall done. My dealer is a GOOD dealer but I guess I will have to stay on my guard or I will wind up with it, if I want it or not.

I have lived on a farm most of my life. I have never had any trouble backing up or hooking to a trailer before why do they think that I need a horn to blow to tell me I'm backing up with the door open now?

Hey DC, I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box but give me a little credit!
