When I picked up my 2022 13 months ago, it had a sticker on the windshield that the grid heater relay recall had been completed. I asked the dealer, and they said they weren't allowed to sell the truck until the recall had been completed. They put the sticker on the windshield so they new at a glance it had been completed. Is this a different recall?

On edit - Yep, looked up my truck on the NHTSA website. It's being recalled again for the grid heater relay. Must be the original fix didn't work.

So I've had the truck for 13 months, and so far 2 grid heater relay recalls, a tailgate recall, and a transmission dipstick recall. Not looking good for Ram in my opinion. Good thing I'm retired and have time to sit at the dealership.

I have the aisin so no dipstick problem and my truck is 15 months old and was checked when I got the truck new for the grid heater by the dealer no issues. I do have the tailgate recall . Is this old news or very current news

I had it done with the first recall. I'm thinking disconnect battery hot from the relay till i get it to the dealer. I don't know if that will cause check engine light.

You'll get a CEL, but if you're in a mild climate, not really needed. Better to be safe with this on going issue! You'd think they would have gotten it right on the first go round. Someone needs to have a talk with the QC people who supply the relay/solenoid!

Will it affect anything driving with CEL ? The recall says no remedy yet.

Dealer service man looked up the vin. Recall just went out yesterday probably a lie anyway my truck is on a recall for the grid heaters. So that would be like a rere call I guess. No parts for 2 -3 months minimum. Is there a way to temp disconnect the grid heater on a fuse etc. serviceman ask if there’s cel I said no. If the heaters bad do you get a light or not on the dash. If it burns the truck up not happy. Burns my house down really not happy if I’m in the house could be dead. Ram has a huge problem I would just pull the fuse. Which one is it?

The article I linked contains this line:

So it appears to be a fix for the original fix. o_O

Yes, they fixed it so good that now they extend into the '22 and '23. But, all is well...thiso_O

"the affected trucks use an older design of heater grid relay that is no longer being installed."

Well now....interesting. The grid heater relay heats up to the point of self ignition.

Apparently so. I wonder if the big alternators Ram is using has anything to do with this. That maybe due to emissions the grid stays on longer and can't take the power generated? I have never watched my volt gauge to see what is going on. My '01 goes off at certain speed/rpm even if it is cold.

They advise you park outside for this, so that tells me it fails with the engine off and while parked. The larger alternator or programming wouldn’t have an effect on that.

However, the larger alternator would mean higher voltage for the same draw which reduces amperage requirements. That should make the wiring run cooler. The truck also shuts the grid heater off at a certain speed too, I haven’t watched too much yet but it appears to be around the same 18mph as my 05.
