The side to side shimmy and shakes during a hard brake are getting too much to ignore. Need to deal with the rotors soon.

Assuming there's enough metal left, is turning them down good enough or are there aftermarket rotors out there that really make a difference and are worth the money?

Thanks,

KRB

DON"T BUY AFTERMARKET... . get good top of the line rotors or turn your factory ones if they have stock.

How do I know?

Long story... .

Don't buy CHEAP aftermarket rotors.

Been there done that !! you'll be right back with the shakes and shimmy ... soon.

For no more money than OEM , I use Power Slot, they seem to stay true, and braking has improved.

I was trying to get Brembo, but they did not have rotors for my truck ( at least not at the time) so I got the Power Slot, been happy with them.

As I tow a 24' gooseneck all the time , I tend to be hard on brakes.

have fun !

if anyone buys brembo, make sure you get a rotor that is NOT made in mexico. just a heads up. ive had brand new rotors from brembo with 20 thousands run out... . out of the box!

So how much do "non-cheap" aftermarket rotors like the Power Slots cost and where's the best place to get them?

I'll probably get NAPA to turn them but just checking my options and weighing the costs.

My son owns/runs an automotive repair shop... and just so you know, he turns every rotor before installation... cheap or top of the line... . most are not good enough (for him) out of the box. He doesn't like rework or po'd customers so he makes it part of the process.

I had the local NAPA measure them. They were too thin. I had the machine shop then press out the studs and swap out the rotors. They then pressed in the original studs (on a very heavy press) and then turned the rotors to true them. No shake. No shimmy.

Make sure your rear drums are working well cuz if not..... the front will do all the work and wear out/over-heat and warp again.

Round and round we go. :-laf

I paid $136 ea for Power Slot rotors for my '01

so far there seem fine, I'm waiting for a trip over some mountains to judge brake fad, as this was why I switched in the first place.
