Before I replace the serp belt that delaminated on my 04. 5 with 4K miles, I wanted to show TDR members a pic of the new belt. The outermost strength member is poking through the parent material for about 50% of its circumference. I showed this to the dealer before I accepted it and the comment was "all new belts look like that. " I am skeptical and it doesn't surprise me that the new one failed. Any comments?

Goodyear

I like the quality of the Goodyear Gatorback Serpentine Belt. Have you taken a look at one of these? I have heard that you will lose your belt chirp on shut down.

Maybe I'm just slow today, but what the hell are we looking at? Is that all one belt and what are we supposed to see?

Edit: If your worried about the "belting" or whatever showing through on the edge, don't be. I've seen this on tons of belts and never noticed any of them wearing out faster or breaking more often than others.

Unless I'm missing something, that looks like most of the serpentine belts I've ever seen... and I used to work at an automotive parts warehouse (read: thousands of belts). ;)
