I've got a strange problem and I figured I throw it out to all the smart suspension guys.

I noticed some months ago that the right rear shackle was rusted through in the middle. Not badly but a definite "get around to it" project. I went to Mopar OnlineParts and ordered 2 2.5 inch new shackles (52039479AA) and 4 new shackle bolts (6504782). Pretty simple, so I thought.

Parts showed up this afternoon. I took everything out and checked the part numbers to be sure I got what I ordered. Good to go.

I attempted the put the bolt through either side of the shackle and it doesn't fit! Bolts are too large for both the leaf side and the mount side of the shackle.
What the heck is going on here? Anyone run into this?

The image is the actual ordering page with the suspension blow up.

You need to put your truck info in your SIGNATURE so we’ll know what truck you have without having to go to your profile page. Even there, all we can see is that it’s a “Stock 1999 Quad Cab full size bed”.

Is it a 2500 or 3500? RWD or 4x4? Auto or manual?

We’d like to help but need more info.

I just went and measured the spring on my ‘98 and they’re 3” wide. I’m going to say you have the wrong shackle and the correct bolts.

Did you measure your spring?

I know on my 01 pretty sure they were 3 inches as well when I replaced mine though it has been a while. Also be prepared for some serious pita to get the old ones out (bolts). IIRC a few came out reasonably, a couple others came out with a heavy dose of BFH and a punch and the last 2 or 3 had to be cut out with a torch. The biggest problem was the rubber bushing and the bolt seemed to have welded themselves together. It got to the point that the vehicle was in the way to get a good swing on the hammer and could get the bushing to spin within the shackle but nothing I did could get the bolt out of the bushing including trying to just melt the bushing away. It would melt the outer area but after perhaps 1/2 inch at most even that didnt do any good. So as a last resort the hot wrench came out and finished it off. New ones went in with little problem.

I called my dealer with the VIN of my '98 and he verified the Shackle is a 52038664AB and the Bolts are a 6504782.

I don't know what I measured months ago (I even put a note in my phone), but that leaf is 3, not 2.5.
Measure twice, buy once... dumbass...
