Was thinking if I had the live round one on the transfercase lever and kept an unloaded gun locked under the middle seat do you think the cops would be smart enough to realize there real rounds in the handle

Why would it matter? Even here in the PRK, there's no problem with having live ammunition in the passenger compartment, as long as the unloaded firearm is locked up.

As a retired cop w/26 years on the job, I imagine the majority of 'em would figure it out. :-laf But I have a question: why would you want to keep an UNLOADED gun LOCKED under a middle seat? Just so you'll know it's there?

Probably to comply with such things as CA state law (presuming he's without a "CCW permit").

EDIT: this assumes he's merely transporting it from place to place, and not relying on an unloaded, locked-up firearm for self defense.
