Ok i got my new smarty today and loaded SW 1, it's very responsive in the low end, a tap on the throtle in nuetral just about red lines, it feels like a new truck,

But i do get allot of injector noise ( TsT unplugged ) i guess it's timming rattle??

Now my problem is this, before smarty stock ecm when my key was turned on my fuel pump would run for a couple of seconds and cut off untill truck was started then start again, so i was starting with zero fuel pressure, now with smarty pump runs continuosly, truck starts with 17 psi fuel pressure, even after i had Smarty return ecm to stock.

Questions

Can i download with my VA 3. 1 installed since it's installed directy in the ecm harness??

Wich has more timing standard TST or Smarty

and wich one hits full timming earlier.

Next week i'm heading out to Utah from Va. towing 10,000 lbs and i'm trying everything i can to get my millage up some,

Should i run Smarty with timming and no TST or Smarty no timing and TST for timming.

Thanx for any help or suggestions.

Rick

Well I don't have enough daily driving with the Smarty loaded to really give an experienced answer. I have ran the Smarty no timing and TST w/twins on 3/0 and was not too bad, not much rattle, just a lot of smoke. I have ran with the TST 0/0 and Smarty with timing and just about the same. My TST is off being upgraded and I loaded the 60hp with timing and EZ on level 1 and that actually seems to be more daily driver friendly for now. If your smoke is not too bad with the TST off and Smarty loaded with timing I would be willing to bet that would be best mileage. Mine with Smarty 60hp with timing and TST 0/0 mileage went up about 1. 5mpg even with the smoke.

I haven't had my smarty long enough to put the pencil to the mileage, but with the TST/EZ my overhead comp showed an average of 16. 3 mpg over several tanks of fuel. Today i reset it and have the smarty on level 9 which is 170 hp w/timing. My comp now is showing 20. 3. And thats at 85-90 mph on the interstate. I know the overhead is not accurate. But thats a big jump and and I can tell by how much I've used in the last few days that its getting better mileage with the smarty.

I am hearing a "ping" at 2000 rpm and above. It sounds like early detonation on my gaser. Is this the same thing that you are hearing? I also noticed the longer run of the stock fuel pump. My fuel prssure gauge is broken but it used to jump up to 7psi and then drop after a few seconds. I can't wait to fix it so that I can see what is going on.

You will get a bit more timing rattle with the smarty over the TST. I notice it all the way through the RPM's but its really apparent at idle.

I timed my fuel pump tonight it runs for almost 1 min then it does shut down, i also niticed that the truck does start with a little less cranking.

For know i've loaded the ecm back to stock, in stop and go traffic today it's a little to touchy along with the con FE, kinda agrivating after about 10 miles, maybe it won't be as bad with a load.

Other than the off idle touchiness, i like the way it drives and accelarates, very smooth power ( i've only tried up to SW3 ) will just take some getting used to, been driving the TST for 40K.
