I just installed my new Smarty this prev. Wed. and I love it.

My question is, will the additional smoke clog up my cat?

If this might be a problem I can pull it off and replace it with a small muffler or resonator. I've prev. installed the muffler delete pipe, and increased exh. noise is one of my considerations.

My concern is I had a 99 Ford F-250 V-10 towing cross country when the cat. clogged up in the middle of no where, and my top speed was about 10 MPH. Not fun!

Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

Side story: On my maiden voyage with my new Smarty set #3, I'm getting on the freeway, rowing through the gears, admiring the added acceleration and smoke, when in my mirror I see I see a CHP approaching fast and I'm at about 75

or 80 MPH. I instantly lifted and fear pierced my heart. ( About $400 worth)

Luckily for me he had other things on his mind, he just pulled up beside me, bent over and looked at me with a scowl, then continued on down the road.

WHEW!

Thanks in advance for information on this, Ray

Ray:

Can you estimate how much more smoke you're seeing??? I'm contemplating a Smarty for my '06 and believe I'll be happy with 30 more HP, but not if I'm puffing more smoke. I'm kind of likn=ing the fact that my '06 puffs a LOT less than my former '98 that had the wick turned up...

Thanks,

That was the first thing I did when I bought my truck, was get rid of the cat. After it was off, I looked through the inlet and saw daylight through 4 nickle sized holes. Now I'd say that that's restrictive!
I replaced the stock muff with a banks straight through muff, and she sounds good, (not any louder) and breathes much better. I kept the stock tail pipe (I think it looks good) and kept the cat on semi-permanant vacation in the garage. In case they start testing, I'll just strapper back on.
The exhaust oder is now sweet instead of acrid=like a real diesel is supposed to smell like...
One of the best mods I've made so far on my rig.

I only run mine on level 3, and it does smoke, but only when you punch it at low rpm's prior tp building boost... . not an issue if you are smooth on the throttle... and it would be even less smoke on level one or if you ran the stock tq mgmt software..... it's more than manageable n the lower levels... .

I've tried multiple programmers on my '06, and the SmartyCR is by far the worst when it comes to smoke regardless of the setting and/or program, which I'm sure contributes to it's poor mileage gains. If smoke/mileage are your primary concerns I'd recommend the FlashPaq. It only smokes when you really get on it and gets great mileage even on the highest setting.

Good Luck!

ronman,

It's hard to put % # on it,but it went from very little if any smoke, to "You can definitley see smoke in the mirror when you nail it". I would guess maybe 25% more.

The only smoke before Smarty at night I could see only through the headlights from the car behind me, when I floored it.

I don't mind smoke and Ido like the Smarty.
