Lift Pump

I just received a new lift pump from Geno's and would like to check it out to make sure that it works. Is thier a way that I can check it to make sure that it works with out taking off the original one, I don't want to be out in the boonies and find out it dosen't work if my original one goes out. I have a 2004. 5 with the lift pump on the back of the fuel filter. Thanks to all that responds.
